The hunting season is upon us once again and we are excited to help you preserve your "Thrill of the Hunt" trophies. We are working to complete last years mounts and are scheduled to be finished with most by opening day of the whitetail season 2024! We will again take in a limited amount of work so we will be able to get everything out in a 6 to 8 month time period. Don't hesitate to give us a call and we welcome your business!

I know several have heard that Danny has cancer, and he does. He is being treated for bladder cancer at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He is doing well and when we're not on the road going from Lubbock to Dallas, you will find him in the shop. We are thankful for Skyler holding down the shop while we're traveling but it's important you know that Danny's diagnosis should not effect your completion of your trophies. As always and as it has been for over 40 years, we appreciate your trust in Creative Critters. Please keep Danny and the Owens family in your prayers!

There have been some changes recently with Creative Critters Taxidermy. We have been blessed with hiring a new taxidermist that we are very excited about. His name is Skyler Thomson and he is very talented and with Danny's help he is growing into a very good artist. With all of the setbacks COVID gave to all businesses, we are beginning to think it truly blessed us at Creative Critters. We are in a place we haven't been in in over 25 years- we are almost caught up with our backlog. We limited the amount of business we took in last year due to not having any help and Danny not wanting to take on a full load without having competent help. The tanneries were all so far behind and we still weren't through with mounts from the 20-21 or the 21-22 season and more than 3/4 of our capes were not back from the tannery. Skyer came in and between him and Danny we have completed all but a few of the 20/21 season and most of the 21/22. We found out last week that our 22/23 tanning will not be back to us until September. Because we only took in 35 shoulder mounts last season we will be completely caught up with any backlog by the end of the year! Greatest news ever. We have decided that we will open up our take-in for the 23-24 season! Please know that when you use Creative Critters Taxidermy to preserve your Thrill of the Hunt- we promise to use only the highest quality tanning and mounting supplies available. We have over 40 years experience in this industry and there is no one in this area of the the state that has the stellar reputation that Danny Owens has earned in his taxidermy career. We still will not guarantee delivery dates but will try to stick to a 10-12 month turnaround. We will also limit our take in numbers as to allow us to stick to the turnaround time. Please note that we don't have control over the turnaround of the tanneries. Thanks again for your patience in allowing us to get caught up and to take some of the stress off our shoulders. Happy hunting!

A customer asked me how much it cost to make a table....
I answered him: $ 1500
He said: So expensive for this job?
I asked: How much do you think it would cost you?
He answers me: $ 800 maximum... That's a pretty simple job right? !"
- For $ 800 I invite you to do it yourself.
- But.... I don't know how to.
- For $800 I'll teach you how to. So besides saving you $700, you'll get the knowledge for the next time you want
- It seemed right to him and he agreed.
- But to get started: you need tools: A fleshing machine, some knives and scapel handle and blades, some 2 part foam, freezers, form, eyes, etc...
- But I don't have all these equipment and I can't buy all of these for one job.
- Well then for another $250 more I'll rent my stuff to you so you can do it.
- Okay, he says.
- Okay! Tuesday I'm waiting for you to start doing this work
- But I can't on Tuesday I only have time today.
- I'm sorry, but I'm only available Tuesday to teach you and lend you my stuff. Other days are busy with other customers.
- Okay! That means I'm going to have to sacrifice my Tuesday, give up my tasks.
- I forgot. To do your job yourself, you also have to pay for the nonproductive factors.
- That is? What is this?"
- Bureaucratic, tax, vat, security, insurance, fuel etc.
- Oh no!... But to accomplish these tasks, I'm going to spend more money and waste a lot of time!
- Do you have them? You can do it to me before?"
- Okay!
- I'll make you all the material you need. Truck loading is done Monday evening or Tuesday morning you'll have to come by 6 loading the truck. Don't forget to be on time to avoid traffic jams and be on time
- At 6??? Nope! Too early for me! I used to getting up later...
- You know, I've been thinking. Y ' all better get the job done. I'd rather pay you the $1500. If I had to, it wouldn't be perfect and it would cost me a lot more.
When you pay for a job, especially handcrafted, you pay not only for the material used, but also:
- Knowledge
- Experience
- Study
- Tools
- Services
- Time to go
- punctuality
- Accountability
- Professionalism
- Accuracy
- Guaranteed
- Patents
- Sacrifices
- Safety and security
- Payment of tax obligations
No one can denigrate other people's work by judging prices.
Only by knowing all the elements necessary for the production of a certain work can you estimate the actual cost.
I did not write this dialogue, but am sharing it to support craftsmen and entrepreneur
