We love hearing how our team makes a difference! It’s always a joy to care for pets like Chloe, give her a hug from all of us! 🐶💞

"Everyone at MVRH has been outstanding but I wanted to highlight Dr. Cooper. I brought my 12 year old pug in for some serious liver/pancreatic issues that resulted in multiple tests and a hospital stay. Dr. Cooper has been extremely empathetic while also being 100% honest even when I may have been in denial. She genuinely cares about animals and I felt confident in the care she was giving my baby Chloe. Obviously a hospital stay and certain testing is not cheap and can add up quick. Dr. Cooper was always cognizant of that and tried her best to help mitigate those costs with other alternatives. The responses have been quick and communication is top notch. Highly recommend! - Samantha G."

When you share your home with a dog the size of a small pony, everything tends to feel a little bigger, including the scares.

Late-night emergencies are stressful no matter your pet’s size. Whether it is sudden lethargy, difficulty breathing, an injury, or something that just does not feel right, those moments can quickly become overwhelming. When every second feels amplified, having immediate access to care matters.

Our 24/7 Emergency team is here for exactly those situations. From the moment you walk through our doors, our doctors, technicians, and support staff move quickly to assess, stabilize, and begin diagnostics. We are equipped to handle everything from minor concerns to critical cases with skill, efficiency, and compassion.

We understand that pets are family. Seeing them in distress, especially in the middle of the night, can be frightening. Our role is to provide clear communication, expert medical care, and steady reassurance so you are never navigating that moment alone.

And yes, whether your dog is five pounds or pony-sized, our goal is always the same: to help them get back home, back on the sofa, and back to taking up exactly the right amount of space in your heart and your living room.

Expert Care When It Matters Most.

Does your pet seem to tire out a little faster during walks?

Heart disease in dogs and cats can be a silent traveler, but early detection means more sunset walks and cozy mornings together. Our Cardiology team at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital wants you to look out for these subtle shifts:

🐾 Tiring quickly during play
🐾 Faster breathing while resting
🐾 Fainting or collapsing during excitement

Catching these signs early is key. We're so proud of patients like Charlie, such a trooper who is back to enjoying his favorite toys thanks to his family's vigilance and our team's specialized care.

Whether it’s a routine screening or an urgent concern, we are here for you when you need us. Reach out to your primary veterinarian or us to learn more about keeping your pet's heart strong.

We are truly touched by kind words like these! It’s reviews like this that remind us why we do what we do, providing expert, compassionate care for every pet and supporting the families who love them.

"I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Silver and her incredible neurology team. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that they truly care—not just about the animals, but about the people who love them too.

Dr. Silver is not only highly knowledgeable and skilled, but also compassionate, patient, and thorough. She takes the time to explain everything clearly, answer questions, and make sure you feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. You never feel rushed or like “just another case”—she treats every animal as if they were her own.

Her neurology team is just as exceptional. They are kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in the well-being of each patient. You can tell they work together seamlessly and are dedicated to providing the best possible care. Their empathy during stressful situations makes such a difference.

It’s rare to find a team that combines such high-level expertise with this level of compassion. I’m incredibly grateful for the care they’ve provided and would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Silver and her team to anyone in need of specialized neurological care for their pet. - Lottie T."

Meet Guadalupe... “Gigi” for short 🐾💕

Gigi recently stayed with our Neurology team for seizure monitoring and care. During her time with us, her medications were thoughtfully adjusted to better support her, and we’re happy to share that she’s now back home where she belongs, surrounded by the people who love her most.

Hospital stays can be overwhelming, but Gigi handled it all with such quiet strength, and it was truly a joy to care for her while she was here.

To Gigi’s family... thank you for trusting us with her care. And to Gigi… we miss you already, sweet girl.

Like a lot of pets, Sigmund gets a little nervous for vet visits. But his family has found the sweetest way to help him feel safe and calm: a little dress-up therapy 💛

Enter… his chicken “happy hoodie.” 🐔

Not only does it make everyone smile, but it helps Sigmund feel more comfortable during his visit with our Internist, Dr. White. And honestly? We’re big fans.

Every pet is different, and sometimes it’s the small, creative comforts from home that make all the difference. Whether it’s a favorite toy, a cozy blanket, or even a chicken hoodie, bringing a sense of familiarity can help ease stress and turn a scary visit into a more positive experience.

Way to go, Sigmund. You handled your recheck like a pro!

Oliver’s Back (and Rocking Those Fluffy Boots) 🐾

Oliver stopped by for his annual check-in with our internist, Dr. Palladino, and, as always, his fluffy boots stole the show. 😍

He’s being monitored for cholangiohepatitis (we know, it’s a mouthful). Simply put, it’s inflammation of the liver and bile ducts. With regular rechecks and expert care, we’re able to closely monitor his health and support his long-term wellness.

Oliver handled his visit like a pro and is heading home looking as fabulous as ever!

💡 Pet Parent Tip: Cats are especially prone to this condition, and it can sometimes be linked to inflammation in other organs like the pancreas or intestines. Signs can be subtle and may include decreased appetite, vomiting, lethargy, weight loss, or yellowing of the eyes or gums.

If you notice any of these changes, your veterinarian can help guide next steps. If needed, our team is always here as a resource at (781) 932-5802.

Larry Bird stopped by for his follow-up after knee surgery and got a clean bill of health! Even though he’s smaller and much furrier than his namesake, he showed just as much heart and determination. Sporting his Patriots sweater, he posed with Matt, CVT, our anesthesia department supervisor, looking ready to leap back into action.

We’re thrilled to see Larry Bird back on his paws and feeling like a champion again!
