I wish they would do that here!!!

For many people, fireworks are a celebration. For countless animals, they can be a terrifying experience.

Massachusetts has long prohibited consumer fireworks, helping reduce the loud explosions that often cause fear and stress for animals. While people may enjoy a few minutes of bright lights in the sky, many animals experience those same moments very differently.

Dogs and cats can panic and try to run away from home. Animal shelters often see an increase in lost pets around major fireworks holidays. Some animals hide for hours. Others stop eating or show signs of extreme anxiety. Even animals who normally seem calm can become frightened by sudden blasts and flashing lights.

Wildlife is affected too. Birds can become disoriented and fly into buildings, trees, or power lines while trying to escape the noise. Deer, rabbits, and other wild animals may flee from their habitats in fear. Farm animals can also suffer stress when explosions erupt nearby.

Animals do not understand that fireworks are meant to be entertainment. They do not know the noise will end. They only know that their surroundings suddenly feel unsafe. What may seem like a brief celebration to us can feel like a frightening and confusing event to them.

That is why many animal advocates support policies that reduce unnecessary fireworks use. A quieter environment can help prevent injuries, reduce stress, and keep more animals safe during holidays and celebrations.

Every animal deserves to feel safe in their own home, whether they live on a couch, in a field, or in the wild.

Our pets are family too. 🐾

In an emergency, knowing the basics of pet CPR can help you act quickly while getting your pet the veterinary care they need. Recognizing when a pet is unresponsive, not breathing, or has no heartbeat could make all the difference.

Take a few moments to review these pet CPR basics. While we hope you never need to use them, being prepared is one more way to help protect your four-legged family members.
