Did you know there are no licensing or certification requirements to become a pet groomer?
In reality, anyone with a pair of clippers can decide to call themselves a groomer and begin charging for services. That’s why it’s so important to do your research when choosing someone to care for your pet.
When searching for a new groomer, consider asking a few key questions:
• What training have they completed?
• What qualifications do they hold?
• How much hands-on experience do they have?
A polished storefront and a friendly smile don’t always reflect the level of skill or knowledge behind the service.
I’m proud to share that I am a certified dog groomer with 13 years of experience. I earned my certification through PetSmart’s hands-on grooming program—a comprehensive six-week course covering dog behavior, safe handling, skin and coat health, grooming techniques, and both basic and breed-specific styling.
Before entering the program, students are required to work as bathers and demonstrate readiness. After completing the course, they must pass a practical exam and submit evaluated work to earn certification.
Your pet’s safety and comfort should always come first—and proper training makes all the difference. 🐶✨
