At just 1 year old and 25 pounds, Chase is the total package. This handsome little guy is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and always happy to be near his people. He loves making new friends and is ready to fill his forever home with love and laughter.

Did you know that you can’t reliably identify a dog’s breed just by looking at them? 👀

We often hear people say, “That dog is definitely a Pit Bull,” or “That looks like a German Shepherd mix.” But the truth is, appearances can be deceiving!

📸 Take a look at the photos in this post! These dogs looked like they were certain breeds, but DNA testing revealed a very different story! Some of their genetic backgrounds might surprise you. These are real-life examples of just how misleading appearances can be.

🐕 Here’s what you should know:

🧬 Mixed-breed dogs can be surprising! A dog’s appearance may resemble one breed, while their DNA reveals a mix of several breeds you might never have guessed.

🔍 Looks aren’t proof. Head shape, body size, coat color, ears, and build can overlap among many different breeds. Even experienced animal professionals can be mistaken when identifying a dog by appearance alone.

🐾 Breed identification is not always accurate. Without a DNA test, breed labels are estimates based on physical characteristics, not confirmed facts. Even shelter and veterinary records may list a breed based on appearance rather than genetic testing.

❤️ Breed does not define the whole dog. Every dog is an individual with their own personality, temperament, history, and needs. A label cannot tell you everything about who they are.

Meet Zila, 8, and Daisy, 9 - a sweet mother-daughter duo who have spent their lives together and are still waiting for someone to choose them.

🐾 Zila is an 81-pound silly girl who LOVES her squeaky balls!

💕 Daisy is a 63-pound sweetheart who loves treats, affection, and relaxing by your side.

🏡 Both girls are housebroken! They may need a little time to warm up, but once they trust you, they become devoted companions.

Penny has been missing since September 19th, and her family is heartbroken and desperately want her home!!😭

*PENNY IS DEAF*

📍 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Penny was spotted on NE 1041 Road, near the corner of NE 1041 Road and NE 600 Road, between Calhoun and Windsor, on the day she went missing.

Today, tracker dogs followed her scent to that same road, where it suddenly stopped — as though she may have been picked up by someone. This area has also been searched THREE TIMES using a thermal drone since she disappeared.

🙏 Did you pick up a dog in this area? Have you seen or heard anything about Penny? Even the smallest detail could help bring her home!

🐾❤️ COULD YOU BE A FOSTER HERO? ❤️🐾

Our pound is small and unmanned, which means a foster home can give a dog something they desperately need — time, comfort, love, and a break from the kennel. 🥺🐶

There are several ways you can help:

🏡 TEMPORARY FOSTER
After a dog is altered, provide a quiet, safe place for them to recover for usually 3–4 days. Instead of recovering alone in an unmanned kennel, they can have someone nearby to care for and comfort them. ❤️

🐾 WEEKEND FOSTER
Give a dog a weekend away from the pound! Let them experience a home, get extra attention, relax, and simply enjoy being a dog. 🥰

☀️ DOGGY DAY FOSTER
Even one day can make a difference! Take a dog for a walk, some fresh air, playtime, cuddles, or just a quiet afternoon with people.

💛 LONG-TERM FOSTER
Open your home for a little longer while we work toward finding their forever family. This gives a dog time to decompress, settle in, and show us their true personality.

Fostering also helps us learn more about each dog — their personality, energy level, behavior, likes and dislikes, and what type of forever home will be the best fit. 🏡❤️
