Canine behavior isn’t always cut and dry. There are layers in a more complicated dog that we need to digest and then observe as the beginning steps of training begin.

Many times however- training is not as complicated as people make it seem. There are simple, clear, concise solutions to many behavioral issues that arise- it takes a very firm, consistent, dedicated approach and if done properly, you’ll see results quickly.

When we try to complicate training into something that feels impossible for the average owner, we fail the dog.

Not because training is hard but because trainers want to feel like only they can do it. Like we are some sort of scientist.

The fact is, we aren’t. Many people could do what we do.

The difference is- the energy, the timing, the clarity, the confidence, the FOLLOW THROUGH. Thats what we bring to the table.

If an owner can master those, most training is actually pretty simple. Anyone making it into some sort of advanced, unteachable formula, has other things in mind. ($$$)

There are no words in these moments.

So much of what we do is lifestyle training.

You won’t bring your dog here and get a result in 2wks, I’m so sorry. We dig deep at the root cause and take long term steps to fix it permanently.

Vesta is a fearful, non social dog with a history. She has worked for many months to prep for her annual vet appt and other real life experiences with and without a muzzle.

She crushed it today, no muzzle, no drugs. Trust and confidence.

This girl is making such wonderful progress! Her owners have been doing the intro steps to muzzle conditioning at home and here she is beginning to work with the muzzle on.

If we jump right into things with dogs, we fail. Especially an older dog. The more time we take to slow it down and ensure they understand, the better the result in the long run.

It’s a big eclipse/full moon week. 🌘

Anyone notice anything behaviorally different in your dogs the past few days?

You might see more:

Anxiety
Restlessness
Aggression
Poor sleep
Sleepiness
Whining

We always find that it affects some dogs more than others, just as in humans.

Maybe we find ourselves more: anxious, irritable, angry, restless, tired, unmotivated, resentful, finding an urge to clean or clean out things, extra emotional, etc.

Best to take it easy and keep the energy calm and relaxed over this week and weekend. ✨ It’ll improve.
