Meet Millie, the sweetest miniature poodle!

Millie came in for her routine spay surgery and a little dental TLC to have some baby teeth removed. After surgery, she got what every one of our patients deserves — plenty of extra cuddles, comfort, and love while waking up from anesthesia.

Why is spaying so important?

Spaying is an important part of keeping your furry family members healthy. It offers several benefits, including:

🐾 Prevents unwanted litters and helps reduce pet overpopulation.

🐾 Eliminates the risk of uterine infections such as pyometra, which can be life-threatening.

🐾 Prevents ovarian / uterine diseases and may reduce the risk of mammary tumors, especially when performed at an appropriate age.

🐾 Stops heat cycles and the behaviors associated with them.

Every pet is unique, so talk with your veterinarian about the best timing for your pet’s spay procedure! ❤️

Now let’s talk Incision care: Keeping that surgical site safe!

After surgery, preventing licking and chewing is essential to help the incision heal properly. Millie's family has options to help keep her comfortable and protected:

✨ Soft donut e-collar: A cozy alternative to a traditional cone that may help prevent your pet from reaching the incision. Just make sure your pet truly cannot reach the surgical site.

✨ Recovery bodysuit: A comfy, wearable option that covers and protects the incision while allowing your pet to move around.

✨ Traditional cone (e-collar): Sometimes the most reliable choice, especially for pets who are determined to lick or chew.

Whichever option you choose, follow your veterinary team's recommendations, keep the incision clean and dry, and check it daily for redness, swelling, discharge, or opening. Avoid bathing until your veterinarian gives the okay.

And of course, one of the BEST parts of recovery?
All the extra post-op snuggles!
Our patients receive plenty of gentle attention, reassurance, and TLC as they wake up and get comfortable after surgery. Because a little extra love goes a long way. ❤️

Give this brave girl some love in the comments!

Meet Mr. Finn! 🐾🧡

Finn is a handsome 6-year-old orange tabby who came to see Dr. McCord after his family noticed some concerning changes. He had been hiding, wasn’t eating, and wasn’t going to the bathroom as usual.

After running bloodwork, Dr. McCord found that Finn was dehydrated, so he received subcutaneous (Sub-Q) fluids to help replenish his body's fluids and get him feeling better!

💧 **What are Sub-Q fluids?** Subcutaneous fluids are given under the skin, where they are gradually absorbed into the body. They help restore hydration, support normal body functions, and can be especially helpful for pets who aren't drinking enough or are losing fluids. It's a way to give our furry friends an extra hydration boost when they need it!

As an extra precaution, Dr. McCord also prescribed two injections to help support Finn's care:

🐾 **Convenia:** This is a long-acting antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. Depending on the suspected condition, it can help fight infection while providing ongoing antibiotic coverage after a single injection.

🐾 **Cerenia:** This medication helps control nausea and vomiting, making it easier for pets to feel more comfortable. When a kitty isn't eating, nausea can sometimes be part of the problem, so helping manage it can be an important part of supportive care.

We’re so glad Finn got the attention and care he needed! 🧡 Sending this sweet orange boy lots of love and wishing him a speedy recovery.

📸 Enjoy these photos of Lee administering Sub-Q fluids to brave boy Mr. Finn!

🐾 Sweet Cocoa came in for some heartworm protection! 🐾

Meet Cocoa, the handsome little Chihuahua. This little guy came in for a yearly heartworm check and his ProHeart 12 injection to help keep him protected all year long!

Our amazing vet techs made sure Cocoa was in good hands. Taylor assisted with a safe, gentle hold while Abby administered his injection. Great teamwork helps make these important visits as comfortable and stress-free as possible!

🩺 Why is a yearly heartworm test so important?

Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause serious damage to a dog’s heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Even dogs who receive regular prevention need routine testing because early infections may not cause obvious symptoms. Annual testing helps us catch infections early and make sure your pup stays on the right track with prevention.

What are the benefits of ProHeart 12?

🐾 12 months of protection: A single injection helps prevent heartworm disease for a full year.

🐾 Convenience for pet parents: No monthly heartworm prevention doses to remember!

🐾 Reliable protection: Helps protect your furry family member against heartworm disease when administered as directed by your veterinarian.

🐾 Peace of mind: Pairing regular heartworm testing with consistent prevention helps keep your pup protected and healthy!

Cocoa is proof that even the tiniest pups deserve BIG protection! ❤️🐕 Ask us about annual heartworm testing and whether ProHeart 12 is right for your furry friend.

Today, we caught Dr. Hawkins hard at work performing a spay surgery on a feral cat!

We strongly encourage spaying and neutering your pets. Whether it’s your beloved house cat or a feral cat living in the community, these procedures make a BIG difference!

🐾 Why is spaying so important?

Prevents Unwanted Litters: One unspayed female cat can have multiple litters each year! Spaying helps reduce the number of unwanted kittens born into a world where shelters and rescues are already overwhelmed.

Reduces Pet Overpopulation: Every year, countless cats and kittens enter animal shelters. Spaying helps break the cycle of overpopulation and reduces the number of homeless animals.

Prevents Serious Health Problems: Spaying eliminates the risk of uterine infections (pyometra) and uterine and ovarian cancers. It can also significantly reduce the risk of mammary cancer, especially when performed before the first heat cycle.

Eliminates Heat Cycles: Spaying prevents the frequent vocalization, restlessness, and other behaviors associated with a female cat being in heat.

Helps Feral Cat Communities: Spaying is an important part of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, which help humanely manage community cat populations by preventing additional litters.

Did you know?
Female cats can become pregnant as young as 4 months old! That’s why discussing spaying with your veterinarian early is so important.

Every kitten deserves a safe, loving home. Unfortunately, there are simply more kittens being born than there are homes available. By choosing to spay or neuter, you’re helping make a difference for animals throughout our community!

A big thank you to Dr. Hawkins and our team for their dedication to improving the lives of animals, including our community’s feral cats!

📅 Ready to schedule your pet’s spay or neuter? We’d love to help!

Who says you can’t mix a little business with pleasure?

Sweet Thunder stopped by Town & Country Veterinary Hospital today to have a lump checked out, but not before showing off his excellent manners! He made sure to shake hands with Whitney and give her a little love during his visit!

❤️ LET’S TALK ABOUT LUMPS & BUMPS! ❤️

As our furry friends get older, it’s not uncommon for them to develop lumps and bumps. While some may be harmless fatty tumors, others can be more concerning.

🔎 Why is it important to have them checked?

🐾 Early Detection Matters! Not all lumps are created equal. Some may be benign, while others could require additional testing or treatment.

🐾 Size Matters! Even a harmless lump can become a problem if it continues to grow. Larger masses can become uncomfortable, interfere with movement, or affect your pet’s ability to walk, lie down, or enjoy everyday activities.

🐾 Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Big! When removal is recommended, addressing a mass while it’s smaller may make surgery less complicated and recovery easier. Waiting until a lump becomes large can sometimes make removal more challenging.

🐾 Looks Can Be Deceiving! You can’t always tell whether a lump is harmless just by looking at it or feeling it. Your veterinarian may recommend a fine needle aspirate, cytology, or biopsy to help determine what you’re dealing with.

🐾 Monitor Changes! If you notice a lump growing, changing shape, becoming irritated, bleeding, or bothering your pet, it’s time to schedule an appointment!

💙 Our biggest advice? Don’t take the wait-and-see approach without having your veterinarian evaluate it first!

We would much rather examine a small lump early than have your pet experience discomfort or mobility issues from one that has continued to grow.

And remember, not every lump needs to be removed, but every new or changing lump deserves attention!

Thunder, thank you for being such a sweet gentleman and sharing a handshake with Whitney!

Taylor, one of our wonderful vet techs, knows that some of the best moments at work are the quiet ones filled with cuddles and purrs! 🐾

One of our talented relief vets, Dr. Selzer, brought in the newest addition to her fur family for the staff to love on. This little guy also got a spa treatment trial run for his upcoming cat show.

Not pictured are his stunning blue and green eyes… thats right, he is heterochromatic! 👀
