We’re celebrating the amazing veterinary technicians and assistants who care for our patients around the clock, all week long!

Our team are IV catheter wizards, anesthesia experts, medication mathematicians, professional animal snugglers, emergency superheroes, and occasional targets of projectile bodily fluids.

They work long hours, handle stressful situations, comfort frightened patients, support worried families, and give their all to the animals in their care.

When an emergency patient arrives, there is an entire team working behind the scenes, and our veterinary technicians & assistants are at the center of it all.
They're the ones preparing equipment before the patient even arrives, jumping into action when seconds matter, monitoring every heartbeat and breath, communicating with the doctors, updating families, and staying at the patient's side throughout the night.

They celebrate the wins.
They carry the hard cases home with them.
They laugh together.
They cry together.
And they keep showing up.

This week, we're taking a moment to recognize the people who give so much of themselves to care for our patients.

To our veterinary technicians and assistants: thank you for everything you do, especially the things nobody sees.

So… what exactly does a vet tech do?
A LOT. 🐾

- Draw and analyze blood
- Place IV catheters and administer medications
- Monitor anesthesia and critical patients
- Assist with procedures and surgery
- Monitor vital signs and recognize changes in patient condition
- Calculate and administer medications
- Provide nursing care and pain management
- Advocate for patients who can't speak for themselves
- Comfort scared animals and their worried humans

This Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the knowledge, skill, compassion, and dedication that our technicians bring to every shift.

They are so much more than “the person who holds the animal.” They are an essential part of the veterinary healthcare team.

Behind every emergency patient is a veterinary team working tirelessly to keep them safe, comfortable, and cared for.

They may not always get to hear a “thank you” from their patients, but they deserve one from all of us.

🐾 POV: You’re a veterinary assistant

Your shift includes:

☑️ Restraining a 100-lb dog who has decided they are, in fact, stronger than physics
☑️ Convincing a cat that the thermometer is NOT an act of war
☑️ Cleaning up something you absolutely don't want to identify
☑️ Running approximately 47 miles around the hospital
☑️ Giving medications, monitoring patients, comforting families, and saving lives
☑️ Somehow still saying, “Awwww, what a cute puppy!”

And then doing it all again tomorrow.

Happy Veterinary Technician/Assistant Week!

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary technicians and assistants who keep our ER moving, often behind the scenes, always making a difference.

They’re the ones placing catheters at 3 a.m., monitoring anesthesia, holding scared patients, comforting worried families, drawing blood, calculating drug doses, cleaning up messes, and somehow still finding time to give every patient a little extra love. ❤️

Our treatment staff is skilled, compassionate, resilient, and absolutely essential to everything we do.

To our incredible team: thank you for showing up, speaking up for your patients, and giving so much of yourselves every single day.

We couldn’t do this without you

This tiny patient is on the road to recovery! Hazel is healing from a leg injury and doing her best to take it easy, though, with a personality this big, in such a tiny body, that’s easier said than done.

She may be small, but she’s got plenty of spirit (and an impressive talent for stealing hearts).

This little sock connoisseur is Thor and he has officially entered his recovery era. After deciding that one of his humans socks looked far more delicious than dinner, this pup learned an important lesson: socks are not a food.

Thankfully, he’s on the mend and getting plenty of rest, cuddles, and supervision while his tummy gets back to normal.

A swallowed sock can be more than a funny puppy story, it can cause a gastrointestinal blockage, which can become an emergency. If your dog swallows clothing, socks, toys, or other non-food items, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian promptly for advice.

Dante came to us after a suspected toxic exposure that initially caused significant muscle tremors. Toxicities can affect pets in many different ways, and tremors, shaking, vomiting, weakness, changes in behavior, or seizures can all be signs that something is wrong.
Our emergency team was able to provide supportive care and close monitoring while this patient recovered. We’re happy to report that those scary tremors are behind him, and he's getting back to being his happy self.

A few important reminders for pet owners:
- Keep medications, chemicals, pesticides, and other potentially toxic substances safely secured.
- If you know what your pet may have been exposed to and, if possible, bring the packaging or product information with you.
- Do not induce vomiting or give your pet anything at home unless specifically instructed by a veterinary professional or poison-control expert.

We’re open 24/7 for any pet emergencies.
