No need to deal with the ice, you can be cozy at home and providing mental stimulation for your dog. While not required, this class will provide the groundwork for our exteriors and vehicles class later!

❄️ Beat the Chilly Blues with a Brain Game! 🐾
Is the icy weather giving you and your pup a serious case of cabin fever? Same here! 🥶

Check out this session where we’re using shaping to get all four paws into a box! No lures, no physical guidance—just rewarding the dog for "figuring out" the next step. It’s like a game of "Hot or Cold" for canines, and it’s the perfect way to burn off that pent-up energy.

The Challenge:
Can you get your dog to fit all four feet into a box today? It’s harder than it looks!

How to play:

Grab a box and some tiny treats.

Reward your dog for looking at the box.

Reward for a paw touch, then one foot in, then two...

Keep going until they’re fully "boxed up!"

💬 Join the Conversation:
Can your dog do it?

Got a different idea? What other simple shaping exercises are you using to survive the winter? (Touch a bell? Rest their chin on a chair?)

Take a look at the two photos below 👀

Which one looks more professional, clearly signals that the handler has control, and shows a well-trained dog?

Both photos were taken intentionally for this post. Any gear shown was used for educational and illustrative purposes only—it was not placed on the dog, fitted, or turned on.

🐾 Tag! You’re It! 🐾

Can your dog do this? Let’s see it!

How to play:

Watch the video of a dog doing a simple behavior.

Post a video of your dog doing the same behavior and yes you can help your dog with a treat.

At the end of your video, add one new behavior your dog knows.

Post your video in the comments and say “Tag! You’re it!” to keep the game going.

Build on the most recent video in the comments! So we can all follow along and play. You can play at each step of the game if you want!

Simple behaviors are perfect for allowing everyone to play — sits, nose touches, downs, stays, spins, bow, puppy push up (sit to down to sit), simple leave it, collar on and off without moving, touching your dog's shoulder or paw without them moving, etc.
Have fun with it and cheer each other on 🎉

🐾 CLASS ALERT: Scent Work 1 – Interiors (Online!) 🐾
Starts Feb. 7 at Noon, $129/6 weeks

Want something fun to do with your dog without freezing outside? This online Scent Work class teaches your dog to use their natural superpower—their nose—to find a hidden odor inside your home.

This class is perfect for beginners. We start at the very beginning by introducing odor and then walk you through each step, so you and your dog know exactly what to do. No experience needed and you can work at your own pace.

By the end of the class, you and your dog will be working together as a team, searching one room of your house for a hidden odor. It’s fun, confidence-building, and dogs absolutely love it.

Great for:

Reactive dogs who struggle with in-person classes.

Dogs on crate rest or recovering from surgery.

Puppies and senior dogs.

Anyone looking for mental enrichment at home.

Nervous dogs who will benefit from confidence building.

Can't find a class time that fits for schedule.

Every dog is welcome. Come play a game your dog was born to win.

🐾 Hiking with your dog should be safe and enjoyable for everyone! 🐾

In this video, you’ll see a simple but important skill in action. As we approach a turn on the trail—where we can’t see who or what might be on the other side—I call my dog back and ask her to move with me. This doesn’t mean a formal heel; it just means staying close until she is realeased again. The eye contact she offers is not required, she is simply happy to offer it.

Once we’re past the turn and I can see the trail is clear, she’s released to sniff and explore again !

Getting to this point takes practice, but these small skills make a huge difference when hiking or walking in parks. They help keep you and your dog safe, and they help others feel comfortable too—no one wants to be surprised by a dog suddenly appearing around a blind corner with their owner lagging behind!

Thoughtful handling = better trail experiences for everyone 💚

Stepping off the trail and calmly feeding or scattering a few high-value treats can do a lot more than people realize. When you give your dog enough distance from the trigger, this simple approach can help reduce reactive responses, teach young dogs what to do when passing people or dogs, and help overly enthusiastic greeters learn that not every passerby is an invitation to say hello.

It’s a low-key, practical technique—but when it’s done well, it can make a huge difference on walks. One of those small skills that ends up being worth its weight in gold.

🐾 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓! 𝐒𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝟏 – 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 (𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄)🐾

Looking for a fun way to work your dog’s brain without leaving the house? Scentwork 1: Interiors starts February 7 at noon and runs online for six weeks. Cost is $129.

This class is a great fit if:

- You want to stay out of the cold.

- You have a reactive dog who struggles in group classes.

- You have a young dog who needs confidence and focus.

- You want to provide enrichment for a senior dog.

- You want mental enrichment without the chaos.

Scentwork taps into what dogs do best, using their noses. You don’t need competition goals to benefit. Expect a tired, satisfied dog and a calmer brain at the end of each session.

Instructor: Connie Moss brings 12 years of scentwork experience and a knack for making searches clear, fun, and effective for both dogs and handlers.
