RSK9 Sydney's Training Crew: Oswald, Sadie, Belle, and Beck!

These hard-working dogs each focused on something slightly different today, depending on where they are in their training journey! Oswald proofed his commands outside of Martin's grocery store, focusing on staying neutral in a new, high-distraction environment!

Sadie worked on heeling next to distractions, including other dogs and a shopping cart. Belle is learning to tuck under tables so she can stay out of the way in public areas. Beck is starting to associate names with the objects we are asking her to retrieve.

This significantly increases the difficulty since she must learn which ones we are asking for! This crew crushes it daily, and we are so proud of them! ❤️

Happy Thursday from RSK9 Michael and the training team!
(Bao, Kona, Kali & Patches)

In today’s photos, we are learning and proofing our door manners!

Door manners are one of the most crucial parts of training because doors can be a major safety concern for your dog. An open door is not an invitation for your dog to simply run outside. They need to learn patience and understand that they must wait for permission before going through the door.

This helps build neutrality and confidence around the door while also taking some of the excitement and anticipation out of it. Teaching your dog to calmly wait instead of rushing through an open door can make a huge difference in their safety and your everyday life.

These dogs are doing an amazing job and learning super fast! 🐾👏

The crew got out for some real-world training outside of Martin’s Grocery Store today! We’re building confidence, focus, and neutrality while working around people, traffic, and everyday distractions.

Getting out into new environments helps strengthen their obedience and prepare them for real-life situations. Great work from everyone! 🔥

Everyone, help me give a warm welcome to the newest member of the RSK9 training team, Kali! 🐶

Happy Wednesday from RSK9 Michael and the training team!
(Bao, Kona, Kali & Patches)

In today’s photos, in between our training repetitions, we incorporated some treadmill work. The treadmill is a great tool for providing both physical exercise and mental stimulation.

While walking on the treadmill, dogs have to pay attention to their movement, maintain their pace, and adjust to the motion of the belt. This requires them to engage their brains while also getting some physical exercise. It can be especially helpful for dogs who need an outlet for extra energy or benefit from structured exercise.

Like any new skill, treadmill training should be introduced gradually and positively. We want our dogs to build confidence and learn that the treadmill is a safe and enjoyable activity.

These dogs are doing an amazing job, and it looks like they’re really starting to enjoy their treadmill time! Great work, guys!
