❤️ You may recognize this guy.
This is Papi — and his photo has been on the cover of our WagPride page getting a self wash.
More than three years ago, Papi was found tied to an electric pole here in Wilton Manors, abandoned overnight in the rain. My Kahuna Rescue took him in, and one of his first stops was right here at WagPride for a much-needed bath.
And if you see our Facebook cover page just look at his smile. ❤️
Papi passed away today after battling cancer, spending his final weeks surrounded by love at My Kahuna Rescue founder Leisa’s home.
We love this photo because it shows what rescue is all about. A dog who was left alone in the rain got another chance — and spent the next three years knowing he was loved.
Rest easy, Papi. You’ll always have a place at WagPride and in our pack. 🐾
And if Papi’s story inspires you to give another dog a chance, check out our Rescue Wall at WagPride, where we feature adoptable dogs from local rescues throughout Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale.
💔 Heavy hearts at My Kahuna Rescue today.
Our sweet Papi passed away today at our founder Leisa’s home after battling cancer. We were lucky to get 11 extra weeks with him—11 weeks of love, comfort, car rides, and knowing he was exactly where he belonged.
More than three years ago, we found Papi tied to an electric pole, abandoned overnight in the rain. We never knew how someone could leave such a good dog behind.
Because Papi had the biggest heart.
He loved car rides. He loved exploring the city. And more than anything, he loved knowing he was being a good boy. That little look for approval meant everything to him.
There’s something special about a rescue dog. They may not understand why they were left behind, but they never stop wanting to belong, to trust, and to make their person happy.
If you’ve never rescued a dog, consider adoption. You won’t just change their life. They have a way of changing yours, too.
Papi’s story may have started tied to a pole in the rain, but that’s not where it ended.
He ended it loved. He ended it home.
And Papi will always have a home at My Kahuna Rescue. ❤️🐾
Run free, Papi. You were such a good boy.
