Now that Saylor is growing up, it’s getting increasingly hard to know who is who upon first glance 🤣 who can get it right?!

💥 Who would be interested in a new shooter clinic November 15th at my facility in Wilson WI?! 💥

If the weather is nice, we can be outdoors, but if it’s not we can move inside. Trying to gauge if there would be enough interest?
$175 includes ammo and use of guns and holsters. Let me know!

This is the stuff you just can’t train for….

This young horse had been recently started and going under saddle, and a prospective buyer came to give him a try. She rode him for the first time ever, and then this happens. It seriously could have gone sideways fast! So proud of this boy for his choice of taking care of his rider rather than reacting to save himself! ❤️

And yes, he is already off in his new home 🥰

Ayla and I have started playing around with asking for different trots 🥰

This girl really really tries hard for me. I can’t wait to see her and her owner hit the show pen next year 🥹

It has been 8 MONTHS since Jewels has been ridden…. I spent a few minutes warming up with some Liberty work and then hopped on in a Neck Rope and this is how she rode off. Time certainly didn’t erase the foundation we had built. She came back with the same trust, willingness, and softness she had before her baby ❤️❤️❤️

Of all the things I expected to come walking out in front of my horse, a bear was not one of them. 🐻 🤣

Khonshu handled it like the rockstar he is.

He sells THIS Saturday!!! Don’t miss your chance to register now to bid on this awesome guy!

Well teaching my first mounted shooting clinic is officially in the books! It would not have been possible without the help of Andrea Lodermeier and Patricia Ann keeping everything operational, running smooth and supporting everyone there! I’m incredibly grateful ❤️

We had a great group of horses and riders for both Friday and Saturday, and hopefully some people who found love for a new sport! Thanks to Northwest Wisconsin Equine Club for allowing us to use their facility. There plenty of room to grow and make improvements but I believe it was a success and lots of people had fun trying something new!

And can we take a minute to check out these holsters made by Andrea!? Was a total surprise to see my logo on there and she absolutely nailed it. If you want to have the coolest holsters, you should check her out. 🥰

Shooting again really does make me miss it. Curious if there would be any interest in maybe doing more practices at my place? 🤔 Maybe?!

Finding Balance: Caution vs. Courage

The tension between respecting the danger and still being willing to stretch beyond what feels comfortable.

I think a lot of people have a false impression that I’m just super confident in everything I do. Reality check… I’m not.

Watching the video, I cringe listening to myself talk. But what’s really happening is I’m talking myself through it more than I’m talking to her. It’s a way for me to maintain my composure and stay out of my head. If my head is filled with the words I’m saying, the things that could go wrong aren’t swirling around up there as strongly (don’t worry, they’re still there). My voice creates the calm energy that both the horse and I need to succeed in this scenario.

That doesn’t mean skipping all the preparation that comes before this point. You can get hurt very quickly and easily doing something like this, but life is about balancing caution with the willingness to push into unfamiliar territory. Somewhere in there is where the art of horsemanship comes into play. Experience matters more than anything, but you don’t become experienced until you do things outside of your comfort zone.

Della is now the third horse I’ve taught to lie upside down 🙃, and she has by far been the easiest. I’m constantly learning, and today I learned that she prefers to have her front legs stretched open while she’s upside down. The way her whole body relaxed when she got her legs up there was quite obvious, despite my nerves about it. It shows it’s the little things that matter to them. I’ve never tried that because I’ve never felt confident enough to offer it due to the fear of being kicked in the chin 🤣. But she showed me respectfully, and I can know take that to the next horse I teach.

So here is a real-time clip of only the second time I have ever swung a leg over her while she was in this position, and a clip of me learning how to make things more comfortable for her in the meantime while narrating to myself to keep my composure in a high risk situation.

Just remember, confidence isn’t the absence of fear; it’s knowing how to work with fear while staying thoughtful, prepared, and receptive to the horse.
