Today is a Transformation Tuesday post. For the last few weeks, we have been working with an outdoor kitty that went missing for a few days and came to his mama “asking” for help. When mom originally called, I was told it was bad. We made plans to allow Tofu to transition over the rainbow bridge. On presentation, I had a cat that smelled like death, bloody ocular discharge, and a very swollen right side of his face. We quickly figured out he had an abscess. I asked mom if she would be willing to give him a chance - knowing that he will likely always have scars if we treat. Mom said let’s do it. This pictures you will see show the changes over the last few weeks - from presentation to removing A LOT of necrotic/dead tissue to our final wound care session before allowing him to go back outside. We are still assessing some facial nerve function to his right eye, but for now he is back to his sassy self. I can’t wait to see how he looks once the hair returns.
-also so those that love absolutely gross abscesses, I do have videos.

Sometimes our own pets are the most difficult. Sangria decided she couldn’t wait for hay to be unloaded and got herself stuck in the trailer. Although we refer all of our large animal patients to Mountain Valley Veterinary Services, we managed to free this heifer with some J L**e and Mineral Oil. Not our normal emergency call for sure. Sangria walked away with a few minor abrasions and hopefully a new found respect for patience.

Rome here! Just wanted to post an update. I had an MRI yesterday at BVS. While I do have confirmed vertebral malformations in my neck, it does not seem to be impinging on my spinal cord. This means no neck surgery at this time!!!I am not a fan of surgery or Cones of Shame. I am wearing one currently after having the mass removed from between my paw pads. 1/10 - do not recommend. The original biopsy showed only chronic inflammation, but the vets think it might help my lameness by removing the mass.
I also wanted to let you guys know the clinic has a new fancy floor. The pros came in this time - not Dr. Holly and Trace trying to DIY.

SVVC welcomed their newest member to the team recently. Everyone meet Rome. He is a beautiful and sweet Dutch Shepherd that has some abnormalities which we are investigating with the help of bridger_veterinary_specialists.
Here’s what we know so far based on radiographs and CT. His right forelimb is smaller than his left - boney-wise and also there is a significant difference in his muscle mass comparatively. He has a small growth on the bottom of his right paw between his main pad and his 2nd toe pad (we are awaiting biopsy results). His toe nails and skin have some abnormalities also which we are unsure if there is potential infection, scarring, or vascular/neural compromise. He has been started on antibiotics just in case there is a bacterial component. The CT revealed something we were not expecting - a narrowing of some of his vertebral canals in his neck - known as Wobbler’s syndrome. We are pursuing an MRI to see how much this is affecting his spinal cord and if there is a potential this has caused restricted limb development.
He has been an amazing patient so far, although he demands hugs. Sometimes that’s a little tough when an 80 lb puppy needs a hug. We will continue to update you all on his results and his progress.

We will be out of office from Jan. 26th - Feb. 3rd. Dr. Holly and the family are heading to Alabama to visit family/friends and also attend the Rocket City Vet Conference to get some updated information in veterinary medicine. If you have an emergency, we strongly recommend Bridger Veterinary Specialists & Emergency. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you when we return.
Wish us luck traveling with a 2 year old and an 8 month old.

Exciting news! We are officially adding on the surgery suite and imaging rooms now. James loves “helping”. Carolyn is more about supervising.
