Let’s teach those new family members how to sit!

Step 1: Get the Dog’s Attention

• Slowly move the treat upwards and slightly back, above the dog’s head. This will encourage the dog to naturally lower its hindquarters.

Step 3: Say “Sit”
• As your dog begins to lower its back into a sitting position, clearly say the word “Sit”.

Step 4: Reward the Dog
• The moment your dog’s bottom touches the ground, give them the treat and offer enthusiastic praise (e.g., “Good sit!”). This reinforces the behavior.

Step 5: Practice
• Repeat the steps several times in short training sessions.
• Once your dog is consistent, practice without a treat in hand and use verbal praise or petting as the reward.
