It truly breaks my heart to make this post, but now more than ever, I am reaching out to our community for help. 💔🙏🏼
One of our treasured Island Dogs, Nina, is looking for a new forever home. A few months ago, her mom suddenly and unexpectedly passed away, and since then Nina has been staying with a temporary foster. While she is safe and loved, we know she deserves a permanent home where she can truly settle in and thrive.
Nina is the definition of a “ready-to-go” dog. She has received consistent training throughout her life and is one of the smartest, most devoted dogs you will ever meet. She is eager to please, loves having a job, and forms incredibly strong bonds with her people.
A little about Nina:
🐾 5 years young
🐾 Pittie mix, approximately 40 lbs
🐾 Spayed
🐾 Up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives
🐾 Healthy, active, and full of personality
Nina is equal parts goofball and working dog. She walks beautifully on leash and knows an impressive list of commands, including sit, stay, come, heel (to walk on the left side), over (to walk on the right side), leave it, drop it, and more. She thrives when given direction and loves being included in everyday life.
Nina enjoys long walks, adventures, car rides, fetch, sunbathing, and cuddling with her humans. She is a true velcro dog who always wants to be close to her people. She especially loves a warm towel or a pile of freshly folded laundry to lay on. 😉
Nina would do best with an individual or family who values an active lifestyle, routine, and consistency. She would love a home where she can be included in daily activities and continue to enjoy plenty of exercise and enrichment. A fenced backyard where she can run and play would be a huge bonus, though it is not an absolute requirement for the right home.
While Nina socializes well with calm dogs in one-on-one settings or very small groups, she would be happiest as the only pet in the household. She is not a fan of large group settings or highly energetic environments and would do best in a calm, structured home without young children.
💖 A few care notes 💖
• Nina has a sensitive stomach but does extremely well on her current kibble, and we would love for her to remain on her current diet.
• She requires routine a**l gland expressions.
• She experiences some anxiety during veterinary visits.
• Nina already comes with a trusted trainer and dog walker/sitter who know her well and are happy to serve as resources for her future family if desired.
Those who know Nina know just how special she is. She is loving, affectionate, hilarious, fiercely loyal, and the kind of dog that leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets. Whoever welcomes her into their family will gain an incredible companion and a best friend for life.
Because finding the right placement matters, potential adopters will be asked to complete the following:
✔️ $300 rehoming fee
✔️ Veterinary references
✔️ Interview process
✔️ Home check
✔️ All household members must meet Nina prior to placement
While we are not a rescue organization and this is not typically the type of post we make, Nina is one of our original Island Dogs. We have grown up together over the years, and finding the right home for her is something we take very seriously. This is not about finding the quickest placement—it’s about finding the right one.
Nina deserves a home where she will be loved, cared for, spoiled, and given every opportunity to thrive. We love this dog dearly, and the circumstances that brought us here have been heartbreaking. However, we know there is someone out there who will be incredibly lucky to call Nina their own.
If you believe you may be the right fit for Nina, please reach out to us at [email protected]
Even if you are not personally looking to adopt, we would be incredibly grateful if you could share this post. The more people who see Nina’s story, the better chance we have of finding the perfect family for her.
As always, thank you to this wonderful community for your support. We are grateful for each and every one of you.
Sincerely, Nicole and Island Dogs ❤️
