After many seasons of learning, building, and dreaming together, we’re sharing the bittersweet news that our Executive Director, Elly Colwell, has decided to step down from her role at Rise Up Community Farm.

Elly first joined RUCF staff as our Farm Manager in 2022. Over the course of five growing seasons, she has poured countless long hours, creative solutions and thoughtful care into this farm and the community that surrounds it. We’re incredibly grateful for all the hard work and fantastic leadership she has contributed to Rise Up, and we’re excited to see where her next adventures take her- including whatever future farming dreams may be on the horizon. 🌻

Though we will have changes coming up with this transition, the farm is still growing strong! We’re excited to continue our work into future seasons, and we're grateful to have such a strong, dedicated community behind us including our staff, Board of Directors, and each of you--our volunteers, customers, donors/sponsors, partners and community supporters. 💚

Over the next few months, we'll be looking to find the right person (or people) to lead the farm into future seasons and are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. We'll soon be sharing upcoming job opportunities and would love your help in spreading the word so we can reach the people that are meant to be a part of our team!

As we celebrate Elly moving into her next chapter, we're still doing the work to make sure our neighbors receive their fresh produce and folks have a safe place to learn about growing food. Thank you to everyone who plants those seeds every day to make it all happen!

You are invited to a Bird-Ability Gathering at the farm! Sara and Jill will teach and encourage us in how we can adapt birding practices to uniquely fit each of our bodies and minds. Long distances, short distances, any distance, or no distance at all- you don’t even have to lift a foot to have fun birding!

We are offering a flower subscription for the fall! Spots are first come first serve and very limited, so sign up for you or a loved one today!

Pickups begin September 6th at Zora's Seafood Market and Kitchen. Our friends at Zora's have been supporting food access initiatives and our work at the farm for some time, and we are incredibly grateful. When members pick up their bouquets, they get a whole experience at the market and can grab their lunch or dinner at the same time! 🐟🌸

If we get the interest this fall, we may be able to continue for future seasons! So don't hesitate to grab your spot 💐

Join us for a free kids’s art workshop at the farm on Sept 26 from 10am-12pm! (We originally had planned this workshop for the summer but got rained out ⛈️)

We will be creating nature hangings using plant branches, feathers, beads, and other natural materials. Our art teacher, Kathy, taught elementary school art classes for 11 years and has been a dedicated Rise Up volunteer since 2023.

Six high school students, eight weeks, a million harvested eggplants and one hot North Carolina sun = another summer of interning on the farm, done! We are so grateful to our interns for all the hard work they put in these past months. Sending them off into the world with a little more skill and knowledge is one of our proudest moments here at Rise Up!
