Our mission is to rescue, educate, and promote responsible ownership. Eli is a four-year-old Cane Corso gentleman with a big heart and the best personality đź’™

He is housebroken, loves car rides, settles beautifully in his crate and is good on the leash. At night, Eli has done well loose in the house, happily choosing between his own bed or staying close to his people. He is open to meeting other pups too.

This boy is pure entertainment. He has legs like a supermodel, lounge positions like a pile of ramen noodles, and a full-body wiggle that says everything you need to know about his happy heart. He is a resident comedian who loves making his people laugh.

Eli is not much of a barker unless there is something important to report, like the FedEx man delivering a box. But he does sing. He will sing “I love you,” “I missed you,” or “let’s play” when he is excited and honestly, it is impossible not to love him for it.

His favorite things include naps in the sun, couch snuggles, fetch, stuffy toys and being near his people. He is content to play independently, but if you join in, that is even better. Eli would love to spend all his days with his humans, but he begrudgingly understands that someone has to work to support his lifestyle.

Think of Eli as the middle-aged gentleman who takes you on a date, holds the door and makes you laugh all night. He is sweet, silly, loyal and full of love - a truly special boy looking to find his forever family.

Every rescue needs a safety net 🛟

It’s what allows us to say yes to the dog who needs emergency medical care, the dog who needs time to heal, and the dog who simply has nowhere else to go.

We are so grateful for the support we’ve received over the years, and we truly only ask when we need the help. Right now, we need to rebuild that safety net for the dogs counting on us.

♥️ Foster found. Safe ride. New chapter.

Poe is officially on his way to his new foster home.

This sweet foster pup has had quite the journey. He came to us in heartbreaking condition, has been nursed back to health, trained, loved, and cheered on by so many people along the way. Today, he gets to start the next part of his story.

A huge thank you to Rachel at WiggleButts Delaware Dog Training for helping Poe become the amazing boy he is today. We had a long chat on the drive over and Poe is going to do his best. This kid is just looking for where he belongs.

An extra special thank you to Munchie for sharing Poe and helping us reach the right people and thank you to Jamie for opening your home and your heart to a foster kid who needed a chance.

Thank you to everyone who shared, commented and cared. Thank you Val for the ride this morning.

This season has been a heavy one for our little rescue and simply put, we need this night to matter.

Between surgeries, medical care, spay/neuters, and the ongoing support it takes to responsibly care for the dogs already in our program, every bit of support truly helps right now.

Join us Thursday, June 11th at Chuck Lager in Wilmington, DE for Sips and Suppers for Second Chances. A portion of all proceeds from the evening will be donated to our dogs. Lucky One Lemonade and food specials will be featured throughout the night.

Good food. Good drinks. Good cause.

Pictured here is Emma, one of our current rescue dogs, who will be undergoing her spay surgery and entropion eye surgery next week. She’s the sweetest momma - now safe in a loving foster home, healing, and finally healthy enough for surgery after everything she’s been through.

URGENT: FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED FOR POE BY WEDNESDAY 6/3‼️

Poe needs our help.

This boy has been nursed back to health from the brink. When Poe first came to us, he was in horrific shape - shut down, physically struggling, and carrying the weight of everything he had survived.

Since then, Poe has been healed. He has been trained. He has been loved. He has been given structure, safety, patience, and the chance to become the dog he was always meant to be.

Poe is only about a year and a half old. He does well at daycare, is open to meeting other dogs, and thrives with structure, consistency, and clear guidance. He is a good, loving boy who has been through a lot and deserves a home that will keep showing up for him.

Rachel at WiggleButts Delaware Dog Training has been incredibly generous keeping Poe safe while we searched for a foster or forever family, but we have reached an urgent point. Poe must have placement by Wednesday, 6/3.

Please help us share him. One share could be the reason Poe finally finds the person who has been waiting for him.

Rescue for the Misunderstood is honored to introduce Little Guardians - a heart-centered humane education workshop for children, hosted in partnership with White Feather Farm.

On June 27th, this gentle, farm-based experience will invite children to slow down, observe, listen, and learn alongside carefully selected dogs in a calm and supported environment.

Little Guardians grows from the heart of our rescue work: looking beyond labels and helping people learn that every dog deserves to be seen, heard, and understood.

Throughout the day, children will explore:
-canine body language and communication
-respectful and safe interaction with animals
-emotional awareness and self-regulation
-nature connection and observation
-kindness, patience, and giving space
-the quiet kind of bravery that comes from staying soft and aware

Little Guardians was created as both a children’s book and an immersive humane education project. This workshop is intended to help children deepen the kindness, awareness, and the connection they already carry within them.

Workshop Details:
June 27, 2026
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
White Feather Farm – Avondale, PA
$150 per child

-A portion of all proceeds will support Rescue for the Misunderstood and the White Feather
Farm Educational Center
-Created for children ages 6–10, with room for older children who are drawn to animals,
kindness, and learning how to help dogs feel safe
-Small group setting to keep the day calm, personal, and intentional

Ash 🌸

Ash is around 3–4 years old and is truly one of the sweetest girls you could ever meet. This beautiful Cane Corso loves to snuggle, adores children and does wonderful with other dogs. In fact, she loves having dog companions so much that we are looking for a home specifically with other dogs to help her continue feeling safe, confident, and loved. Ash has come such a long way and blossomed into the prettiest flower. Now she’s ready to find the forever home she deserves.

⚾️ Poe is ready to find his home team!

Every player deserves a team behind him, and Poe is still waiting for his. At just a year and a half old, Poe is the kind of dog who keeps showing up with his whole heart. He’s goofy, affectionate, eager to connect, and trying so hard to find where he belongs.

Poe is open to meeting other dogs and would love a foster or forever home willing to give him guidance, structure, and a real chance to settle in and be part of something. He’s a really good guy. The kind who just needs his people, his place, and a soft landing after life’s uncertainty.

Right now, we are urgently looking for either:
⚾️ A foster home ⚾️ Or a forever home

Because every dog deserves more than to stay on the sidelines.
