Did you know you can tell adult male and female monarch butterflies apart? Look for a dark spot on each hindwing. If you see them, it's a male. If not, it's a female!

They are specialized scales males have that emit pheromones to attract females. Another visual cue is the presence of thick veins on the wings. These are the black lines we're familiar with on monarchs. Females have thicker lines than males.

Now you've learned something on Butterfly Education & Awareness Day, so put it into practice with these photos. ๐€๐๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง for each as to whether it's a male or female butterfly.

Attention Park Users!

A road closure along North Park Drive may impact visitation to Brandywine Park and the Brandywine Zoo for the next 5-6 weeks. The closure is due to half of the roadway will being removed to create structural supports for the historic stone wall and sidewalk.

Both area parking lots will remain open, 900 N Park Drive lot is across from the Zoo and 1116 N Park Drive lot is adjacent to the Jasper Crane Rose Garden. Please note there is no vehicular access between the two parking lots and parking is prohibited on North Park Drive.

Ruby-throated hummingbirds can be seen in Delaware and surrounding states during the summer. They migrate north from Central America to nest. ๐Ÿชน

Have you been lucky enough to spot a hummingbird nest? A small bird means a small nest, which means even smaller eggs. Hummingbirds lay up to 3 eggs and each is the size of a jelly bean! They are the smallest eggs in the world. What a fun fact for National Egg Day! ๐Ÿชบ
