People sometimes wonder why we do so much groundwork. Why not just get on and ride the horse especially if it has already been ridden for years. It doesn’t matter if your horse is just getting started under saddle or is already broke, there is a basic foundation that all horses need to have. The best way to establish that is to teach them on the ground first. The riding is the easy part. There is a side note to this, you need to have the correct facilities and the knowledge. What you see in this video is a horse that would have jumped out of an insufficient round pen and without knowledge and experience, someone could have been really hurt!

Sometimes when a horse comes here with a problem, you just have to start back with the basics and get them doing it correctly. It reminds me of a great horse trainer (before the internet trainers) that talked about “red & green lights”, he said if you get a red light go back until you get a “green light”!

Who would have known that a 2 YO gelding would be the best nanny on the farm!!! We had a client with a young c**t that did not have good manners and needed some schooling and some basic handling training. First we needed to wean him from his dam. It’s pretty traumatic to separate a foal from its farm and its dam but Coal stepped in and helped make the perfect transition. He stopped the c**t’s bad biting habit with gentle corrections and then when we moved them to the herd, Coal made sure his new little buddy was safe!
