🐾✨Staff Spotlight: Erica (Veterinary Assistant)✨🐾

I started in reception a few years ago and found my way back to vet med here at Sandy Paws as an assistant back in September. I've found a new love for this field, more than I could have possibly imagined. My love for animals has always been true, but my appreciation for my new role has grown so much being part of this team. I'm looking forward to growing my career, continuing to learn and grow every day. I'm a big cat girl and will always take all the face kisses your fur babies have to offer.

🐾✨Staff Spotlight: Sierra(Lead Veterinary Assistant )✨🐾

I started in this field as a receptionist, worked my way into the back and found my love for this field. I have been in the field for about 7 years now. I obtained my Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from CFCC and then went further to obtain my Bachelors degree in Veterinary Technology from Appalachian State. I am a mom of two, an active shepherd lover, & love educating the public. My hobbies include reading, hiking, & spending time with my family! I intend to finally pass my boards this year and hope to continue to be there to support you and your fur kids. If you have a sheppie or a maligator- you know where to find me!

🐾✨Staff Spotlight: Jessica (Hospital Manager)✨🐾

Jessica is our Hospital Manager here at Sandy Paws Animal Hospital, bringing 13 years of veterinary experience, and received her RVT license in 2022. She runs the organized chaos of the hospital to ensure her team stays happy, pets get pampered, and everyone leaves with bellies adequately rubbed and tails wagging — or at least purring grudgingly.

At home she's outnumbered by her 2 cats: Gambler, a "professional cuddle consultant" who believes laps are public property, and Queso, a tiny whirlwind of mischief who alternates between “psycho” zoomies and full-on lovebug mode. To them, she exists solely to refill food bowls and provide chin scratches.

When she's not corralling her team, she's usually nose-deep in her kindle or hunting for the next great read at my favorite bookstore, Burning Pages. She also loves the beach and exploring local spots — because you never know where you’ll find the best coffee, the quirkiest shop, or a stray cat with great taste in humans.

This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on our owner and veterinarian, Dr. Cassie Mitlitsky!

Dr. Cassie graduated from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2015 and has dedicated her career to providing compassionate, high-quality care for pets and the people who love them.

As the founder of Sandy Paws Animal Hospital, Dr. Cassie built our practice with a simple mission: to create a welcoming place where pets receive exceptional medical care and families feel heard, supported, and treated like family. Her passion for veterinary medicine, commitment to continuing education, and genuine love for animals are evident in every patient she sees.

When she’s not caring for pets, Dr. Cassie enjoys spending time with her family and the many furry friends who inspired her journey into veterinary medicine.
