Long before Maine C***s became the magnificent cats we know and love today, they were hardworking barn and farm cats in the northern United States, particularly throughout New England.

Living in the harsh New England climate helped shape this remarkable breed. Over generations, their thick, luxurious coats, large bodies, big paws, and long, bushy tails helped them adapt to the cold, snowy winters.

Their rugged environment helped create the majestic look that makes the Maine C**n so unique today. ❤️

From humble barn cats to one of the world's most beloved breeds, the Maine C**n has a truly fascinating American history!

Did you know that cats with extra toes (polydactyl cats) were once common aboard ships in the 1700s? Sailors valued these cats as skilled mousers, and their large, wide paws were thought to help them stay steady on ships.

These cats became part of the early history and folklore surrounding the Maine C**n, especially along the New England coast. ⚓🐈
