Today is World Parrot Day! The parrot kind contains around 400 species found across Africa, Central and South America, and Oceania. All parrot species today are descended from the representatives of the parrot kind preserved on the Ark during the Flood. In our fallen world, many parrot species now face threats such as habitat loss, the pet trade, and invasive species. As godly stewards, we strive to care for creation—including these amazing birds—responsibly!

What do a tiger, rat, chicken, lightning all have in common?

Tiger Rat Snakes!

Also known as Chicken Snakes and Thunder & Lightning Snakes, these beautiful arboreal snakes are known for living high in the trees and for their vibrant yellow striping.

The Ararat Ridge Zoo recently welcomed FOUR Tiger Rat Snakes! Two will soon be on display for guests to see, while the others will live behind the scenes as ambassador animals.

Summer is here, and with it comes our schedule for summer zoo programs!

Join us Monday through Saturday at 1:15 p.m. for Animals After the Ark, Creatures of the Creator, or Sssensational Snakes! (Check our website for specific days for each theme). Then come back at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. for our popular Creature Features, where you will meet one (or more) of our amazing animals! On Sundays, join us for a special 3:30 p.m. Creature Feature.

Next week, we begin our full offering of behind-the-scenes experiences!

Curious how the kangaroo kind got from the Ark to Australia? Get answers to this and more in our Macropod Experience, which takes you off-trail for an up-close encounter with our red kangaroos and Bennett’s wallabies. If you’d rather slow down, check out our Sloth Experience with Felix! We also offer a Bird of Prey Experience where you can learn about our resident bald eagle, General Boone, feed our Marabou storks, meet some more birds of prey, and learn how to be a good steward of our native wildlife.
