Meet Chase!

Chase is a sweet, independent guy with a curious side. He loves to explore his surroundings and to investigate what’s going on around him. When he’s ready for some affection, Chase will flop down on his side and ask for belly rubs.

Chase is great about using his scratching box and loves playing with his dragon toy. He appreciates having quiet places to retreat to when he wants some alone time or a nap. At night he loves to sleep on the bed with his people.

Chase would do best as the only cat in the home so he can have all the attention, love, and space to call his own. He’s looking for someone who will appreciate his independent streak while also enjoying his affectionate, sometimes-insistent personality.

If you’re looking for a sweet, independent kitty, Chase might just be your perfect match.

Special Foster Needed for Two Sweet, Grieving Cats
Three things happened in August of 2016: a tiger kitten was saved 2 hours before being euthanized; a kind soul found a kitten in a park trash can and brought him to Cindy at Clinton Co Animal Control who called us; and a woman with a big heart asked us to recommend two kittens who would get along, and she would adopt them. And, she did adopt them.
For almost 10 years, these three amigos lived happily together. Then, last week, their mom passed away unexpectedly. Ollie, the tiger cat and the more outgoing of the pair, allows the humans to comfort him but is sad. Harvey, the orange one who has always been shy, has been hiding because he is still coming to terms with the fact that his mom won’t be coming back.
The Kitten Nursery makes a lifetime commitment to our cats. If they lose their human and need a safe place to land, they come back to us. For this pair, we would really like to have a foster home who will be able to let them decompress in a quiet space, watch to make sure they are eating and drinking, and give them love on their terms and timeframe. We could also do a trial adoption. We cover food, litter, and veterinary care. We can give tips on working with cats in this situation. If you have a spare bedroom or home office or other enclosed space and want to be a kitty hero, please contact us.

Ruthie’s story is both heartbreaking and hopeful. She was adopted as a tiny kitten from The Kitten Nursery, but after 9 years she was returned through no fault of her own. Now, this gentle girl is starting over and deserves all the love and care in the world.

Ruthie has a painful resorptive lesion and urgently needs a dental procedure to remove the affected tooth. The procedure is estimated at $600, though costs may rise if more extractions are required. Our goal is to raise funds so Ruthie can finally be pain free.

Ruthie is as sweet as they come, she loves sitting on shoulders, purring away, and spending her days on her window perch watching chipmunks and the world go by. She’s a mellow, loving cat who deserves comfort and happiness in her golden years.

How you can help:
1. Donate toward Ruthie’s dental care.

2. Share Ruthie’s story so others can help, too.

3. Consider opening your heart and home. Ruthie is looking for her forever family!

Every dollar brings Ruthie closer to a pain-free life and a forever home. Thank you for helping us give her the second chance she deserves.

ADOPTED!! Saucy Noodle, now named Daisy Noodle, has found the most marvelous home. Christian sent in an application that had us smiling, and when we interviewed him, we were even more excited. We brought Daisy to his house and his set up was just perfect to help a new kitten adapt to a new house.

We asked Christian to send us a picture of the two of them once she was braver, and he sent us one with the two of them watching TV. He reports that " She is doing wonderfully. Really the best cat I could have asked for. Eating great, using her litter box great, playing lots (she really likes the little springs), and is very lovey."

He puts birds on for her on his laptop and she sleeps on the bed with him (she likes sleeping with humans). We could not have asked for a better pet parent for Daisy!! Thank you to all of you for supporting her when she arrived so she could get all of the medical care necessary to go on to find the best dad! Thank you to Riverside Cat Hospital and to her foster parents, Hallie and Phil Corning!!

The Saucy Noodle! This ridiculously sweet kitten puff was so hungry that she went into a trap that was set with peanut butter. Her finders called us, and we had to help. Luckily, our incredible veterinarian, Dr. Lewis at Riverside Cat Hospital, squeezed her in to an already packed day. She tested negative for FeL/FIV, got her first vaccines, and antibiotics for some wounds caused by parasites. She made biscuits the whole time she was getting examined, tested, and even later in the week when Dr. Lewis had to clean the wounds a bit more. She was great for Mary, the groomer who cut her nails.
This little one is 11 weeks old and very easy to handle. She enjoys hanging out with people, and her foster mom appreciates everyone who has helped to socialize her so far. She is available through The Kitten Nursery.
We could use some help, though. Every time we take in a kitten, we need to prepare for possibly large vet bills which are only made better because Dr. Lewis doesn't charge us for exams but we have already spent over $200 on her care. We also need to make sure we can help the kitten if they are returned to us later or don't get adopted which can be costly (we spent at least $2,000 on one of our cats who ended up passing away from cancer in the past year). ADOPTED!! We simultaneously giggled and "awwed" when we saw this adoption picture of Lily and Loki with their new family. Lily, the little grey, is likely purring while checking out her next opportunity to play with something, and Loki, her brother, has turned into a giant 14 pound noodle and is trying to burrow into his mom. And, we really love the joy and love on their family's faces. Of course, Lily and Loki are cats and no way will they cooperate and both be looking up at the camera at the same time.

Lily and Loki liked their foster home but clearly longed for the days of yore when they had their own devoted family who focused just on them. Unfortunately, their family fell on some super hard times and couldn't keep them.

Enter Jim, Melissa, and their cat loving daughters. They wanted a pair of bonded cats who liked hanging out with people and snuggling. Now, they have their own giant picture window where Lily can sit and "hunt" and can watch golf, movies, and the nature channel on a big couch.

Lily and Loki did surprise us when they first met their new family by becoming instantly shy and hiding in the recliner. Sometimes, cats get stressed even when their new pet parents do everything right. Jim and Melissa worked with us to try different strategies to help acclimate them to their new home. We thought they would think we were out to lunch when we suggested moving their new pets to the bathroom and visiting them there but they tried it. And what do you know? With a little bit of regrouping and patience, we have the adorable picture below!!

Thank you to the Downs Family for giving Loki and Lily a new family to call their own. We also love the complete synchronization of the family portrait here! It is a Happy Thanksgiving indeed!!

RIP Eco: Eco came to TKN in late 2012 after he was trapped by a compassionate cat lover at 4 months old. She was able to catch his mom, too. We knew there was a chance he would not change his feral outlook on life but, based on observations by his finder about his outdoor life (busy road, wooded area close by with predators, and a basic lack of survival skills) we decided we would keep him with us regardless of his sociability. We are glad we did - just because a cat is feral or a "community cat" doesn't mean that they are suited for an outdoor life.

He loved being with other cats and really, really loved food. He always had intestinal issues and want to thank all of the volunteers who cared for him and cleaned up after him with a special shout out to Meg McMahon for providing a safe harbor for him during a time of uncertainty for him. When Meg heard he had passed away, she said "I admired his determination to always be independent and loved him."

He loved the new cat tree at his foster mom's. He could bird watch or nap or, as you see in one of the pictures, he could vocalize his frustration about the slowness of the wait staff at his establishment:) He liked snuggling with other cats sometimes like his friend (and pillow), Serenity.

Thank you to Dr. Lewis, the whole team at Riverside Cat Hospital and Alicia Weber for all of your efforts to try to figure out what was wrong at the end. If your sweet little feral ever needs a crew who will be able to handle them and make them better, there is no better place than Riverside, and we are lucky to have them in our community. Thank you to Kari Sederburg for bringing him into our lives. And, thank you to our volunteers, supporters, and donors for making it possible for us to help cats in need.
