Although there were many challenges to weather, we made it to 2026 National Night Out, and it was a huge success.

My "kids" enjoyed all the grazing, shade, brushing, water, and other attention. And their behavior was impeccable throughout the entire 4 hours they spent at McCormick Park.

Many thanks to the Williamston Police force for hosting the annual event AND for making our participation possible in so many ways. Thank you, Ari and Beth, for tending everyone inside the pen. And thank you, Kira, for the pictures.

Introducing the newest member of the M&MS FARMS SANCTUARY family. Pickles!!

Pickles arrived late yesterday afternoon after a whirlwind day for me. A trip to Hillsdale, Michigan to meet him and make the decision. A stop at the bank on the way home. Rearranging things in the barn to make room for him. Dumping his grain into a feed canister. Bedding his new stall. And getting his dinner ready and waiting.

Pickles is a striking, black and white, 10 year old (mostly) Hackney pony. Very forward moving. He rides and drives. My new driving horse!

Pickles spent the time before dinner yesterday in a pen by himself, meeting the other horses and donkeys over the fence. This morning, Jonah and Raya joined him, while many of the others visited through the fence.

Thank you, Shelby, for entrusting Pickles to my care. Thanks, Jaz, for joining me at the beginning of this new adventure. And thank you, Kira, for today's pictures.

Sometimes the hardest words in the world are not “I love you.”

They are “goodbye.”

Not because we do not understand them, but because our hearts refuse to accept them.

Anyone who has ever loved a horse knows this feeling.

A horse is never just an animal.

They become part of our daily lives in ways we rarely notice at first. The sound of hooves approaching when they recognize us. The warm breath on a cold morning. The quiet moments spent together when no words are needed. Little by little, they stop being a part of our life and become a part of who we are.

That is why losing a horse feels different.

It leaves a silence that no sound can fill.

A space that no one else can occupy.

A memory that returns unexpectedly when you pass an empty stall, hear distant hoofbeats, or find an old photograph hidden away in a drawer.

But perhaps love was never meant to end with goodbye.

Looking at this image, I see something many horse lovers secretly hope is true.

That somewhere beyond our understanding, beyond pain and beyond loss, the horses we loved still exist.

Running freely.

Strong again.

Young again.

Watching over the people who once cared for them.

The rainbow is more than color.

It is a bridge between memory and hope.

Between grief and healing.

Between what was and what still remains inside our hearts.

Because real love never disappears.

The bond between a horse and a human is built on trust, patience, and countless shared moments. Those things do not vanish when life changes. They become part of us forever.

Every ride.

Every challenge.

Every victory.

Every quiet evening spent together.

Those memories stay alive long after the final farewell.

Maybe that is why the words in this picture feel so powerful.

“It’s never goodbye, just see you later.”

Not because they erase the pain.

But because they remind us that love is stronger than absence.

The horses we lose may no longer walk beside us, but they continue to guide us through the lessons they taught us.

To trust.

To be brave.

To be gentle.

To live fully.

And when the sadness feels overwhelming, perhaps we should remember something simple.

The greatest gift a horse can leave behind is not sorrow.

It is gratitude.

Gratitude for every moment shared.

For every trail explored.

For every sunrise and sunset witnessed together.

For every memory that still makes us smile through tears.

Some souls leave hoofprints on the ground.

The rare ones leave them on our hearts forever.

This is the end of an era for me.

After 37 years of breeding and training Australian Shepherds, I will no longer be breeding them. I am no longer physically capable of giving each pup what I believe he/she deserves from a conscientious breeder.

Willow has been spayed. I neutered Stetson before I sold him. Hocus no longer cycles. Andi returned to us spayed. Cowgirl will be spayed on Tuesday.

It's a painful decision. A sad recognition of my reality.

To all of you who have chosen to purchase your Aussies from me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please continue to send me pictures and updates, After all, but not for me, they wouldn't be.

I will still be training the dogs, horses, and donkeys, in cooperation with the Owners, to do good things.

Both Magic and Yoda are available to serve outside dogs. They are standing at stud here at M&MS FARMS SANCTUARY.
