Meet Midge! Midge came to us after being trapped on an abandoned property. She is sweet as pie, talks incessantly and truly can NOT get enough attention! You may see her hanging around when you visit us, so don't forget to say hi. She would do well in a quiet home with someone who has lots of time to pet and cuddle her.

Meet Bentley, a handsome golden retriever who recently celebrated his 9th birthday! We hope he had a wonderful celebration!

But how old is that in human years? According to the American Kennel Club, "15 human years equals the first year of a medium-sized dog’s life. Year two for a dog equals about nine years for a human. And after that, each human year would be approximately five years for a dog." That puts Bentley at about 61 human years young!

Meet Fuzzy, a 3-year-old gray domestic short-haired cat, who has found a cozy place for napping in the bathroom sink. So, why do cats like to sleep in the sink?

According to Catster, the sink is a comfortable, cool, quiet place where they can feel secure while they rest. It's a perfect shape for their bodies. Cats also like to drink from the faucet. If you want to stop your cat from taking naps in your sink, you can try closing the door to the bathroom - not for long, just long enough for your cat to learn the sink is not the best bed. You can also try creating a napping space at approximately the same level that your cat will enjoy, like on a cat tree. The final suggestion, and this works for keeping your cat off the counter, is to lay aluminum foil in the sink and/or along the countertops - cats usually hate aluminum foil.

Meet Maximus! Maximus is an 11-year-old Mastiff mix. He loves to cuddle in his afghan throw that his grandma gave to him. Maximus has a special coat color called brindle that is defined by the dark stripes of fur on a lighter background coat color, kinda like a tiger's. According to fluffytamer.com, brindle is a rare coat pattern in dogs, though its rarity depends on the breed. It’s caused by a rare recessive gene that affects how pigment is distributed in the hair follicles, creating dark stripes or swirls over a lighter background. For a dog to show brindle, it must inherit two copies of the recessive brindle gene — one from each parent — which makes it less common than dominant coat colors.

Meet Xena, a 14-year-old yellow Lab. With the sun shining down this beautiful girl, don't you feel warmer already?

Maybe not, but you know what? Ticks don't seem to mind the winter cold. In most areas of the U.S., the high season for ticks runs from April through November, but veterinarians recommend you use tick preventatives all year round. Infection from a tick bite can occur at any time of the year. Some tick species move inside during the winter months where they are closer to humans and pets, while others make a type of antifreeze to help them survive during the brutal cold of winter. Crafty little pests!

This is R***r Rue, a 4-year-old Australian Shepherd. He's drying off and humoring mom while she takes a picture of him with a towel on his head. (Actually, he really loves the camera!) He wants to remind everyone to be safe in this snow, so keep reading!

Here's some snow safety tips from the ASPCA: While it’s fun to see dogs romping in the snow, ASPCA experts stress that winter play can be dangerous if not done safely.

Winter weather can bring more than just snow — it can also bring ice-melting chemicals, antifreeze, and extreme cold. These can cause chapped paws, skin irritation, and even frostbite if pets are left outdoors too long ASPCA.

Limit outdoor time — If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your dog.

Protect paws — Massage vet-approved paw protectants into pads before going outside; booties can help.

Watch for hazards — Remove snowballs from between toes to prevent irritation; check for cracks or redness.

Use pet-friendly ice melts — Avoid those containing ethylene glycol; opt for propylene glycol or other safe products.

Keep pets warm — A long coat or sweater with collar coverage can help; never shave dogs in winter.

Dry and clean after play — Wash and dry paws and stomach to remove ice, salt, and chemicals.

Avoid antifreeze spills — This is toxic and can be fatal if ingested.

Feed extra in winter — Pets burn more energy to stay warm.

FREE to a good home!

These sweet kitties are in need of a new home. Their owner unexpectedly passed away, which has beenquite an ordeal for them.

The big orange fella is Kanga. Kanga is an 8 year old neutered domestic shorthair. He is incredibly sweet, but a little shy at first. Once he gets to know you, he is duper loveable. He has been fully vetted.

The tabby and white kitty is Tango. She is a 6 year old spayed female, domestic shorthair. She is very nervous but is very sweet. She also has been fully vetted.

Ideally, we would like to see both of these kitties go to a new home together, but for the right person we are willing to separate them. We do require that they both MUST be indoor only.

Help us find them a good home!

If you are interested in adopting one or both of these adorable cats, please contact us at 315-589-8439.
