If you're looking for a loyal best friend, Tex just might be your perfect match.

This handsome boy is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet - a smiley, lovable beefcake with a heart of gold. Currently thriving in a foster home, Tex has been showing everyone what an amazing companion he can be.

Tex can be trusted to relax at home during the workday and is perfectly content spending time in his crate. At night, he's happy to snuggle up beside you or sleep comfortably in his own space.

He already knows "sit," "stay," and "go to crate," and he's working hard on learning even more. His foster family says he's a joy to have around and loves being close to his people.

Tex can be selective with other dogs and would benefit from thoughtful introductions. When it comes to cats, he's curious but respectful and responds appropriately to their boundaries.

This wonderful boy has so much love to give - we just need to help him find the family that deserves him.

Looking for hardworking barn buddies with personality to spare? These four spicy siblings are ready to find homes where they can put their natural talents to work as expert barn/career cats! All four kitties are 6 months old, fully vaccinated, neutered and FeLv/FIV negative! 🐾

ADOPTION SUCCESS STORY - AGENT K 🖤🤍🐾
“I make this look good.”

My name is Agent K, and I spend my life in a tuxedo… just like Tommy Lee Jones in the Men in Black movies.

I used to live at The Heritage Humane Society shelter - not for very long, though - because I purr a lot, I’ve always been super cute, and I “made nice” with everyone who met me.

Heritage Humane was great. I was very well cared for, and the staff and volunteers were kind, attentive, and loving. I got high marks for being friendly and affectionate - like I said, I’m a pretty good boy. My first human loved me very much but could no longer care for me, and it made him very sad to say goodbye.

Then, in 2023, I found my forever home with my favorite human. I call her “The Treat Lady.” She says I completely run the house now, which honestly seems accurate.

I should mention that The Treat Lady calls me an “escape artist” because I think I’m destined to be an outdoor cat. The few times I’ve slipped out of the house, the grass felt amazing under my paws. She insists I stay inside because she worries about my safety, which means my dreams of becoming an “intrepid explorer” are currently on hold.

Still… I have to admit my indoor life is pretty incredible.

The Treat Lady lets me do basically whatever I want. Sometimes I make her move her laptop so I can knead her arms and legs like I’m fluffing pillows before settling in for a nap on her lap. At bedtime, I tuck my head under her chin and purr-snore myself to sleep.

Our house also has lots of windows, which is perfect for sunbathing while watching birds, butterflies, rabbits, and even deer wander through the neighborhood.

So yes… I have a charmed life.

Thanks to Heritage Humane and The Treat Lady, I found exactly where I belong — and every cat deserves to be this fortunate. 🖤

Caps, gowns, and cats? Now THAT is how you celebrate graduation. 🎓🐱💚💛

Our community is truly one of a kind. These two recent graduates from William & Mary chose to include some of our homeless cats in their senior photo shoot at Schwartzy's Cat Cove — and our hearts are completely melted.

Moments like these remind us how lucky we are to live in a community filled with compassion, kindness, and love for animals in need. Thank you for making shelter pets part of such a special milestone.

And a huge thank you to our friends at Nautical Dog- Pet Market & Dog Wash for creating a space where so many kitties receive this kind of daily exposure, socialization, and opportunity to connect with future adopters. Partnerships like this truly change lives. 🐾

Happy trails and congratulations to these amazing graduates! We know your futures are going to be bright. ✨

These adorable kittens spent the last two months growing big and strong in a loving foster home, and now they’re officially ready to take center stage in a forever family of their own. From cuddles to zoomies to microphone-worthy meows, these two are full of personality and sweetness.

Do you melt when you see large breed dogs? Then get ready to fall head over heels for Bandit. 🖤🐾

Don’t let this girl’s size fool you - at 130 pounds, Bandit is truly a gentle giant who lives for love, cuddles, and rolling around in the grass like the happiest pup in the world. 🌱

Bandit is a 4½-year-old Mastiff mix who bonds deeply with her people and would love a calm home where she can feel safe and supported. She can be protective by nature, so slow introductions to new faces help her shine. She would do best in an adult-only home and would really appreciate a family that can provide her with plenty of companionship, as she gets anxious when left alone.

Her dream? A comfy couch, loving humans, and a forever home to call her own. 🛋️❤️

We are so grateful for our friends at Precarious Beer Project! 🍻🐾 A portion of every registration for their upcoming 5K on June 6 will support the homeless pets at the Heritage Humane Society.

Our sweet girl Mrs. Toad stopped by this week to thank them for their support, and she had an absolute blast making new friends (and sampling some delicious treats along the way)! ❤️

Now all Mrs. Toad needs is a loving family of her very own. You can meet this adorable girl at Heritage Humane Society, located at 430 Waller Mill Road in Williamsburg, between noon and 4:30 p.m.

Here we have Karter, our resident interior decorator. 🎨 She’s not content with just a simple dip in the pool; she’s decided the whole thing needs to be repositioned for maximum aesthetic value (and maximum splash, of course)! If you're looking for a dog who can rearrange your backyard and your heart, Karter is your gal! Her previous home had great notes reporting she was house-trained, great in the home (she won't actually rearrange your backyard… but maybe the baby pool!), and seems to be social with other pets. 💕

And Eisley, who clearly missed the memo that counter-surfing isn’t literal. 👩‍🍳 We’re pretty sure he’s practicing to be a celebrity chef or a very intense food critic. Need a quality assurance officer for your steak? Eisley is ready for the job! 🍖👀
