From oxygen support ➡️ to home sweet home 🏡🐾

Meet Pickles!

Pickles came to CARE after suffering a tracheal tear and initially needed oxygen support, IV fluids, and more from our team.

As he continued to improve, Pickles was successfully weaned from oxygen to room air. Before long, he was ready for the best part of recovery: Going HOME! 🎉

🚗🐾 When a pet experiences significant trauma, what we can’t see can matter just as much as what we can.

X-rays are often an important first step after an accident and can help identify fractures and other obvious injuries. However, because radiographs provide a two-dimensional image, some injuries may be subtle, obscured by overlapping structures, or not visible at all.

That’s where CT imaging can provide a closer look.

CT creates detailed, cross-sectional images of the body, allowing our veterinary team to evaluate areas such as the chest, abdomen, bones, and internal organs in greater detail. In trauma patients, this can help identify injuries like internal bleeding, pulmonary trauma, complex fractures, or organ damage that may not be apparent on initial X-rays.

A pet may look okay on the outside, and even have reassuring initial X-rays, while still having injuries that require medical attention.

🐾 Pale or white gums
🐾 A swollen, hard belly
🐾 Straining to urinate with little or nothing coming out

Each one points to a condition where minutes and hours matter, not days. Knowing what they look like before an emergency happens is one of the best things you can do for your pet.

If you’re ever unsure whether something counts as an emergency, please call us. There’s no such thing as a question that’s too small when your pet’s wellbeing is on the line. ❤️

A pet owner once apologized to us for asking what the surgery actually involved. There is nothing to apologize for. Not now, not ever.

When your pet is in our ER, fear can make you feel like you should stay quiet, nod along, and let the team handle it. We understand that instinct, but you are still your pet’s person, and your questions are part of good care, not an interruption to it.

Ask us anything! Ask us twice if you need to. We would rather slow down for sixty seconds and make sure you understand than have you leave with questions.

🐾 A Visit We’ll Never Forget ❤️

Back in May, Pepper came through our doors underweight and recovering from heartworm disease. During her stay, she was diagnosed with protein-losing enteropathy (PLE), and her prognosis was guarded.

Fast forward a bit, Pepper came back to visit us and there wasn’t a dry eye in the building!

Healthy, happy, and full of love, she made her way around the hospital greeting the team who helped care for her. Seeing her wagging tail, bright eyes, and sweet kisses was the best reminder of why we do what we do.

To Pepper’s mom: thank you for trusting us during one of the hardest moments, and thank you for bringing her back to share this incredible milestone with us.

Stories like Pepper’s are what keep us going. ❤️🐾
