Please join us in welcoming Dr. Nelson to the Five Forks Animal Clinic team!

Dr. Nelson earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and completed an advanced internship in emergency and specialty medicine. She has a special interest in exotic animal medicine in addition to small animal medicine and is excited to provide compassionate, high-quality care to pets in the Williamsburg community.

The Summer Heat is here!

While enjoying the weather, our companions can overheat much faster than we do. A few simple precautions can make all the difference.

- Keep freshwater available at all times
- Make sure your pet has access to shade
- If the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for their paws
- Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even with the windows cracked
- *Know the signs of heat stroke (excessive, panting, drooling weakness, vomiting, stumbling bright, red gums, or collapse)*

If you notice any signs of heat stroke, seek emergency vet, veterinary care immediately

The 4th of July is quickly approaching. As we prepare for the holiday, it is important to consider how fireworks may affect your pet. If you're concerned about your pet's anxiety & safety during the festivities, we're here to assist you!

• Keep them indoors in a quiet and secure space
• Create a safe haven with their bed and toys
• Use calming products like pheromone sprays, anxiety wraps, or thunder shirts
• Play white noise or soft music to mask the sound

If you feel your pet may need extra assistance managing anxiety during fireworks, we strongly encourage you to give us a call in advance. Your veterinarian can assess your pet's needs and recommend the best course of action to ensure a calm and safe experience.
