Happy Lunar New Year 🧧✨ (Feb 17)
Welcoming the energy of the Fire Horse 🔥🐴

In Chinese philosophy, the Horse represents vitality, movement, and forward momentum — while Fire brings warmth, passion, and transformation.

In integrative and TCVM practice, this is a beautiful reminder that even our senior pets carry a spark of vitality within them. Our role isn’t to “turn back the clock,” but to support comfort, mobility, and quality of life so that spark can continue to shine.

As we step into this new year, I’m especially mindful of:
• Supporting circulation and warmth
• Protecting deep energy reserves
• Honoring the bond between pets and their families

May this year bring strength, resilience, and renewed comfort to the animals we love. 🐾

If your senior pet could use a little extra support this season, I’d be happy to help guide you. Call me for an appointment!

TCVM & the Water Element 💧

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), the Water element is associated with the Kidneys and Bladder — and it represents our pets’ deep reserves of energy, vitality, and resilience.

The Water element governs:
• Aging and longevity
• Mobility and the lower back
• Fear and anxiety
• Willpower and adaptability

When the Water element is strong, pets tend to feel grounded, comfortable in their bodies, and able to handle stress more easily.
When it’s out of balance, we may see signs like stiffness, weakness in the hind end, chronic pain, anxiety, or changes that come with aging.

In integrative care, acupuncture and other TCVM tools are used to support the Water element, especially in senior pets or those with chronic conditions — always with the goal of improving comfort and quality of life.

Every patient expresses imbalance differently, which is why treatment plans are individualized and thoughtfully tailored.

As 2025 comes to a close, we at Seaside Veterinary Cardiac Imaging are so appreciative of the warm embrace the community has given our new mobile cardiology clinic that opened this past September! We have been able to help many patients with their heart health. As a thank you to the community, and as an early launch of national heart month in February, we will be offering discounted cardiac workups for the entire month of February on our mobile clinic (see below for qualifying criteria). We are starting promotions for this now so that anyone who wants to participate can save their spot early😃

Loving a pet through aging or chronic illness often comes with a kind of grief that doesn’t get talked about enough.
In integrative veterinary care, my goal is not just to treat symptoms — but to support comfort, dignity, and quality of life, while honoring the deep bond between pets and the people who love them.
If you’re navigating this season with your pet, you’re not alone. 💙

Discussion today involves why arthritis can be worse in winter……Cold is contracting and makes the body tense and frozen/stiff while also limiting activity. While motion is the lotion of the body and warmth helps the sinews/muscles and body relax and expand. Don’t forget to move at this time of year and get your warmth where you can: fireplace, heated blankets, saunas, soups, teas, etc! This applies to you arthritic dogs and cats too!
