The loss of a special veterinarian.
Dr. Cierra Cadena, DVM, a young equine veterinarian, died by su***de on September 21, 2026.
She had recently graduated from the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in May 2026 and had just begun her career as an intern at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala in Florida.
Her tragic passing has deeply impacted the equine and ranch sorting communities, prompting many within the profession to raise awareness about mental health struggles.
Cierra had been here in HVC while going through vet school, we just spoke last week for Cierra wanted to be approved as a volunteer veterinarian. She was so excited saying she learned so much in here that she wanted to give back.
To the Cadena family, friends, coworkers, and colleagues:
Our hearts are completely with you during this unimaginably difficult time. There are simply no words large enough to hold the depth of a loss like this. Please know that the entire veterinary community surrounds you in grief, love, and constant prayer. She will never be forgotten.
To all the veterinarians, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for everything you do. Every single day, you carry an immense weight on your shoulders. You act as healers, comforters, and protectors for the animals we love, often carrying their pain and the emotions of their families home with you.
The dedication, late hours, and profound empathy you pour into your work do not go unnoticed. Please remember that you are appreciated, you are valued, and you are never alone. Your community stands behind you, not just to celebrate your hard work, but to support you through the heavy days, too.
Thank you for your tireless dedication, your beautiful hearts, and the vital care you provide. You truly change the world, one life at a time.
Rest in peace Cierra
