This right here people! Yes drones find deer. And have their place in this game. But until the leaves are down, stop paying them so much money to play games!! We never charge a dime to help hunters. Certainly take donations. But truly want to put more lost deer on a tailgate!!
Phoebe’s new buddy is Ron Turner of Sawyer County, Wisconsin. Ron waited 12 years to get a Bear tag. So when he finally shot this decent Bear and couldn’t find it he really felt as though he had to exhaust every effort.
All the dog trackers that were in range were fully booked. Including me. So Ron called a drone guy. These days every single person that buys a drone is a “big game recovery expert” within a week. Ron paid the drone guy 350 dollars to play with his toy for two hours. Do you know a lot of people that get 175 dollars per hour to play a video game? I don’t. The drone guy found nothing and left with the money. Ron called me back last night and asked me if I’d try it at 38 hours. I would.
Party girl went 475 yards in 14 minutes through Honeysuckle hell right to the dead Bear 38 hours after the shot.
I don’t blame Ron for trying everything he could. I DO think it’s unethical for a guy with a drone to take that kind of money from a hunter when looking for an animal in the thickness of the Northwoods. Especially when the leaves are still on the hardwoods. It’s simply not right.
Hunters: I have a top of the line state of the art drone. It is NEVER better than a legit tracking dog for recovering dead animals. A drone will NEVER find anything a legit tracking dog can’t. The reverse is demonstrably (proven multiple times every year) NOT true.
If you insist on having a drone available, try to find a legit tracking team that also has a drone. There are many and more and more every day. Nuff said.
Congrats Ron. I’m grateful to have been part of your awesome hunt. Glad you got your Bear!
