Started by Dr. William Skaer, we are certified by the American Animal Hospital Association and adhere to the highest veterinary standards. Dr. Bill's daughter, Dr. Christen Skaer purchased the hospital from her dad and since then, we have continued his legacy of excellence. We are proud to have Dr. Covington and Dr. Estivo on staff and some amazing team members!

We are paws-itive that we have the best team in the world! A massive thank you to our techs: Janelle, Steph, Micayla, Jae, Jeralin, Christelle, Cassie, Kelly, Coty, and Aubry for everything you do.

Thank you for always tackling any challenge, keeping your tails wagging, and treating our patients like purr-fect royalty. Our clinic would be a total cat-astrophe without your hard work. You are all completely claw-some, and we love you fur-ever.

🎃 Spooky, Sweet, and Ready to Trick-or-Treat! 👻🐾

Iris and Howard are getting into the Halloween spirit, and Dr. Covington is here to remind us that while Halloween should be full of fun and a few harmless scares, pet emergencies shouldn't be one of them! 🧡

Before the trick-or-treaters arrive, keep these pet safety tips in mind:

🍫 Keep the candy for the humans! Chocolate and sugar-free candies containing xylitol can be dangerous for pets. Keep candy bowls and treat bags out of reach.

🚪 Watch those open doors! With trick-or-treaters coming and going, even the most well-behaved pets can slip outside. Make sure your pet's microchip information and ID tags are up to date.

👻 Not every pet enjoys spooky surprises! Costumes, doorbells, decorations, and unfamiliar visitors can be overwhelming. Give your pet a quiet, comfortable space away from the excitement.

🧙 Costumes should be comfortable, not stressful! If your pet enjoys dressing up, choose a costume that allows them to move, breathe, and see freely. Never leave a costumed pet unattended.

🕯️ Keep decorations out of paws' reach! Glow sticks, electrical cords, and candles can pose hazards to curious pets.

🧡 Think your pet got into something dangerous? Call our Skaer veterinary team right away. Don't wait for symptoms to appear.

Today, we want to celebrate a boss who leads with her heart.
Dr. Skaer pours so much of herself into caring for her patients and clients, always leading with compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to make a difference. But what makes her truly special is that her compassion doesn't stop there. She cares deeply about her team, our well-being, our growth, and the people we are both inside and outside the clinic.

Veterinary medicine isn't always easy, and we know that carrying the responsibility of a practice takes an incredible amount of hard work, sacrifice, and heart. We are grateful to have someone who cares so much—not only about the medicine we practice, but about the people who make it all happen.

Thank you, Dr. Skaer, for everything you do for our patients, our clients, and each of us. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful to be part of the team you've built.

Meet Finnigan and his new little brother, Mousse! These handsome boys recently visited Skaer for their exams and vaccines, and let's just say the Churu was a BIG hit! 😂💙

As a Gold Certified Cat Friendly Practice, we love using treats, gentle handling, and positive reinforcement to help our feline patients feel more comfortable during their visits.

And speaking of treats... October is National Pet Obesity Awareness Month!

Kittenhood is a great time to start building healthy habits that last a lifetime! That includes measured meals, daily playtime, appropriate treats, and regular veterinary visits.

👀 Do you know your cat's Body Condition Score (BCS)? The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) uses a 9-point scale to help assess body fat. An ideal score for most cats is generally 4–5 out of 9.
