Moxibustion is a type of acupuncture in which a practitioner applies burning herbs to acupuncture points to stimulate the points and improve the flow of energy in your body.

In this image I am using the moxa to stimulate acupuncture points in the hips and SI region of a 29 yr old retired rodeo horse with chronic lameness. Moxa is particularly useful in animals whose pain worsens with colder weather. Note that I am using my hand around the needle to monitor the needle temperature so that it does not get too hot.
