Today our family grew in a very big way! We welcomed Noah, the perfect addition to our team! Noah is considering veterinary school someday, and lucky for us, he chose Whiting Veterinary Clinic to gain hands-on experience alongside Dr. Leo.

Noah’s first day started with an emergency, followed by several unique cases, lots of diagnostics, and as you can see, he fit in perfectly! It was a fun filled day that left smiles on all of our faces.

Welcome to the team, Noah! We are so happy to have you on board!

I would like to introduce you all to the most important person in my life. Some of you may have already met him, my husband, Andrew, also known around here as “Mr. Dr. Leo.” But he is so much more than that, both to me and to this practice.

While I may be receiving recognition for reopening Whiting Veterinary Clinic and being nominated for honors such as Veterinarian of the Year, the truth is that none of this would have been possible without him.

From the very beginning, Andrew has supported me every step of the way. Back when I first started exploring this career path as a volunteer at Guam Animals in Need Animal Shelter, he was always there listening to me talk about my shifts, lending a helping hand, and often stepping into the role of “Mr. Mom” so I could pursue my goals.

Over the years, he has sacrificed opportunities within his own career in order to put me and our family first. When I worked as a technician at Whiting Veterinary Clinic, Andrew did everything possible to keep our family in New Jersey, so that I could stay employed working at the hospital I love. As active-duty military, that was no easy task, but somehow he always found a way to take care of me first.

When I first brought up the idea of veterinary school, there was, understandably, some hesitation. But together we made a plan, and once again Andrew went above and beyond. The best option for me was attending school out of the country. Originally, we planned for one of our two children to stay with me each year, but then COVID hit, making travel nearly impossible. I was unable to have either of my children with me on the island, and during that time Andrew, the best husband and father anyone could ask for, held down the fort at home while I chased my dream.

Most recently came the opportunity to take ownership of this hospital, and once again my husband stepped up. To be transparent, his initial reaction was that it might finally be time to focus on his own dreams, and he did not want to take on a major role in reopening the practice. But despite that, his loyalty, love, and support for me never wavered.

For months before I was even able to get back to New Jersey myself, Andrew took on the overwhelming task of cleaning, organizing, repairing, and preparing the hospital. He spent countless hours here late into the night after finishing his own job and traveling back and forth from out of state every single day.

Andrew has stood by my side through every challenge and somehow always made things better. He is truly my knight in shining armor, and without him, I would not be where I am today, and this clinic would not be in the hands that it is.

Thank you, Andrew, for everything: the sacrifices, the sweat, the tears, and for standing beside me through every single step to help make my dreams a reality.

Please join me in giving a round of applause and a heartfelt shoutout to the man behind the scenes, the love of my life, and the person who deserves so much of the credit for everything you see here today at Whiting Veterinary Clinic.

Wow…what a day!!

I had intended to write this thank you post first thing this morning, but after yesterday, I’ve been overwhelmed with a full heart and so many thoughts that it was difficult to even know where to begin. I apologize in advance for how long this is, but please read until the end, there is so much gratitude to share!

First and foremost, thank you to Dr. Lisa Schorr…my mentor, friend, and the person who taught me everything about Whiting, medicine, and this practice. Thank you, Doc, for being there and supporting me on the biggest day of my career and the reopening of Whiting Veterinary Clinic. Being handed the scalpel that I once handed to you was beyond meaningful to me. I could not have pulled off such an incredible event or understood what this community needed in their new veterinarian without all the years you spent teaching and guiding me. Thank you for putting up with me through every one of them! Thank you as well to Don for being a part of this special day, everyone loved the tours!

To our amazing volunteers, thank you! Lori, you did an incredible job running the “Find the Flea and Tick” game! Rob, Dawn, and Linda, thank you for helping keep everyone fed throughout the day. Lori and Debbie, you absolutely rocked the flea market table! Seating for the event was generously provided by Whiting United Methodist Church, and we are so grateful for your support.

Now… the FOOD!!! If you enjoyed lunch yesterday, you have Nonna’s to thank! Not only were they conveniently located to cater our event, but they were hands-down the top choice and they absolutely outdid themselves. Nonna’s has been a hospital favorite and what I consider family friends for years. They took our order last minute and delivered one of the best lunches imaginable! If you have an upcoming event, special date night, or just want a yummy slice of pizza, we highly recommend Nonna’s. Thank you to Joey and the entire team for making such a delicious lunch happen!

We are also so honored and thankful for the Manchester Police Department and the K9 Unit. The working dogs were incredible, and we cannot thank Officers Wendruff, Micciulla, and Meaney enough for the amazing police dog demonstration they put on. You guys are awesome, and I look forward to many years of working together! We would also like to extend a very special thank you to the Mayor’s Office and Mayor Joseph Hankins for taking the time to support our Open House and the reopening of Whiting Veterinary Clinic.

Another huge part of what made our event so successful was our wonderful vendors. A simple thank you hardly feels like enough. If you missed the Open House, be sure to check out:

- J&R Kennels for dog training and their petting zoo

- Pawfect Partner for dog training

- Stay at Home Pets for dog walking and pet sitting

- Perfect Paws House Calls for in-home nail trims and delicious organic dog treats

- Mobile Animal X-Ray for in-home diagnostic imaging services

Thank you as well to our sponsors: Citizens Bank, Midwest Veterinary Supply, Elanco, Merck, Hamilton Pet Meadows, Hill’s, Vetoquinol, Idexx, and Nutramax. These are incredible companies that we are proud to collaborate with. Whether you donated a basket, attended in person, or supported us behind the scenes, your generosity was deeply appreciated.

And of course…the rescues!!! Thank you to SOS Beagle Rescue, Jonah’s Ark Rescue, SAVE/TNR, Sheltie Rescue, and K’s Kitten Rescue for joining us. We hope your organizations received the attention and support you deserve. And now for the best news of all…Together, we raised $618 at yesterday’s event to be divided among the rescues! We could not be more excited and honored to pass that along.

Lastly, thank you to every single person who came out and participated in this once-in-a-lifetime day for me. Whether you came as a Whiting Veterinary Clinic alumni member or considering becoming a new member of the Whiting Veterinary family, your support meant everything to me.

I love this community, and I thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to serve you as your new veterinarian. You helped raise me and now I’ll do my very best to take care of all of you for years to come.

This practice is in safe hands… and you’re all stuck with me forever. ❤️

With a full heart,
Dr. Leo

P.S. we hope you enjoy all the photos and videos we have posted from yesterday’s event. If you have any photos or videos to share please email them to [email protected]
