🐴πŸ”₯ A GREAT DAY AT THE NC STATE FAIR FOR LLEWELLYN ACRES! πŸŽ‘πŸ†

What an exciting day of mounted shooting, horsemanship, personal accomplishments, and making memories!

Our Llewellyn Acres crew headed to the NC State Fair for a four-stage mounted shooting competition, and we couldn't be prouder of our horses and riders! ❀️🐎

πŸ‰πŸ”₯ LYNN & LLARIA – THE FIRE BREATHING DRAGON!
These two FINALLY found their groove and brought home their VERY FIRST mounted shooting ribbon! πŸŽ€πŸ†
πŸ₯³ 6th place out of 30 amazing riders!
Competing in the Open 2D format, Lynn and Llaria completed four stages:
🎯 Stage 1 – Pattern 52: 22.351 seconds
🎯 Stage 2 – Pattern 61: 20.474 seconds (+5 penalty)
🎯 Stage 3 – Pattern 90: 20.419 seconds
🎯 Stage 4 – Pattern 88: 16.350 seconds πŸ”₯
⏱️ Total Raw Time: 81.594 seconds
πŸ† Official Time: 86.594 seconds

Their final stage was their fastest run of the day!
This partnership has been a journey of patience, practice, trust, and determination. There have been challenges, learning experiences, and plenty of growing pains, but today things started clicking!

🐴πŸ’₯ MARIE & PANCHO took on all FOUR mounted shooting demonstration stages!
Every trip into the arena is another opportunity to build confidence, strengthen communication, and gain valuable experience. We love watching this team continue developing their partnership and horsemanship skills!

🀠🐎 LEONARDO & SARGE – Our young cowboy Leonardo and his partner Sarge completed ALL FOUR Wrangler stages! πŸ’™
Mounted shooting isn't just about speed or competition. It's about learning responsibility, developing confidence, improving horsemanship, and building a partnership with your horse.
Watching our wrangler continue learning, growing, and gaining experience in the arena is something special!

❀️ MORE THAN JUST RIBBONS!
At Llewellyn Acres, we believe success isn't always measured by where you finish. Sometimes it's measured by the courage to enter the arena, the determination to keep improving, and the partnership you build along the way.

Today we celebrated a first ribbon, four successful demonstration stages, four Wrangler stages, and another wonderful opportunity to do what we love!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and to our fellow competitors for a wonderful day of sportsmanship and competition!

🐴 Keep riding. Keep learning. Keep chasing those dreams!

πŸ΄πŸ”« MOUNTED SHOOTING PRACTICE UPDATE – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¨
Well, Mother Nature is certainly keeping us on our toes this morning! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I've been hemming and hawing since yesterday afternoon, watching the radar on THREE different weather apps, and wouldn't you know it...they all seem to have a different opinion! πŸ˜‚

Unfortunately, the latest forecast for Whiteville is showing increasing chances of rain throughout the morning, temperatures dropping into the upper 50s, and north winds reaching 17–19 mph.

As much as I LOVE hosting mounted shooting practices, coaching riders, and providing opportunities for everyone to learn and improve, Mother Nature sure knows how to make planning challenging!

I wish more than ever that we had an indoor arena!
Safety for our horses, riders, and volunteers will always come first. Wet footing, gusty winds, and unpredictable weather aren't exactly ideal conditions for mounted shooting.

I truly appreciate everyone who has offered to come ride, help set balloons, and support our practices. Your time and willingness to help mean so much!

Sometimes the hardest part of hosting an outdoor event is knowing when Mother Nature just isn't going to cooperate.

Thank you all for your patience, flexibility, and understanding! ❀️🐴 See you at the next one.

❀️ Sometimes the Biggest Lessons in Horsemanship Have Nothing to Do with Winning a Ribbon!

If you know Lynn Boomhower, you know she NEVER remembers to take pictures! πŸ“ΈπŸ˜‚ But yesterday was certainly a day worth remembering!

After an unexpected change in plans, we traded our rodeo adventures for a rainy day at Lake Waccamaw. And let's be clear... Lynn and her crew do NOT do rain! We're basically a bunch of cats when it comes to getting wet! 🐈🌧️🀣

Despite the weather, all FIVE horses and riders did a wonderful job, and we couldn't be prouder of the effort, determination, and horsemanship displayed throughout the day.
Every rider came with something different to work on.
🐴 Some focused on speed control and learning when to "let out the clutch."
🐴 Others worked on developing quiet hands, better communication, and trusting their horses.
🐴 And for some, the biggest challenge was finding their confidence and learning to trust themselves.
Not every lesson came easily, and yesterday reminded us that horses are incredible teachers. Sometimes those lessons are humbling, emotional, and a little dusty.

🀩Gemma and Gertie had all smooth, clean patterns, with conservative speed and excellent controlβ€”the confidence this team needed.

πŸ¦„We are proud of Cooper and Joules. They earned some personal bests along the way. I am so excited in the confidence they showed throughout each pattern.

🚜 Nova and Pancho brought the sonic and worked hard on slowing down for better control and timing. The speed will come with clearer communication and improved timing.
Pancho is a powerful tank who requires a rider capable of controlling the timing of β€œhis clutch.” Nova worked hard to find his gears and shift the transmission correctly without micromanaging her hands. This was a valuable lesson in trusting the communication between horse and rider while allowing Pancho to do his job.

❀️ Little Margo and Lilli were having a beautiful, smooth pole bending run until Lilli decided to add a little rodeo-style buck at the beginning of the run home!
Margo took an unexpected trip to the dirt, but let me tell you, that little girl is TOUGH AS NAILS! She jumped up, spit out the dirt, dusted herself off, and climbed right back in the saddle! Thankfully, she was unharmed, and her determination was something to admire.

🐎Leonardo Adimari and Sarge had a different kind of learning experience. Leo entered the barrel arena with a little more aggression than his incredibly sensitive partner appreciated. Well, Sarge took offense, and things got western in a hurry!
Once we knew he was okay, it was time to cowboy up, work through those emotions, and get back in the saddle, And he did. ❀️
We finished the day slowing things down, rebuilding communication, and putting a little Band-Aid on some bruised emotions; this partnership has some trust and confidence to rebuild.

And that's okay. That's horsemanship.

At Llewellyn Acres, we believe that riding lessons are about so much more than learning patterns, improving times, or bringing home ribbons.
They're about teaching responsibility, patience, perseverance, humility, and respect for the incredible animals that allow us to partner with them.

We celebrate the beautiful runs, the personal bests, and the victories. But we also recognize the importance of the difficult days, the mistakes, and the lessons that challenge us to become better riders and better horsemen.
Confidence is not the same as aggression. Courage is not the absence of fear. And true horsemanship is built on communication, patience, and trust.

Sometimes success looks like a blue ribbon.
Sometimes it looks like a faster time or a smoother pattern.
And sometimes, success is simply finding the courage to climb back in the saddle.
