BEX — because ordinary was never really his thing.
At first glance, it’s the color that gets you. A 7-year-old, 15.1 hand leopard Appaloosa covered in beautiful palomino-colored spots, with the mane, tail, and forelock most Appaloosas forgot to order. He’s unusual, classy, and downright hard to quit looking at.
But spend five minutes with Bex and his color quickly becomes the least interesting thing about him.
This gelding is an old soul. He’s kind, quiet, incredibly personable, and genuinely enjoys people. He meets you at the gate, appreciates a good scratching, minds his manners, and has that calm, settled way about him that you simply can’t manufacture.
And Bex didn’t get good by going around in circles his whole life.
He’s put in long days ranching through rough, rocky country. He’s learned to watch where he puts his feet, take care of himself and his rider, and keep going when the country gets tough. Take him outside and you’ll understand exactly why we like him so much. Give him his head, point him toward the horizon, and go. Water, logs, bridges, hills, thick brush, rough country or several miles down the trail — Bex is happy to take you there.
He’s just as enjoyable in the arena. He walks, trots and lopes pretty circles, picks up his correct leads, and is a beautiful mover. Truthfully, put an English saddle on him and he’d look like he belonged there too.
Flags, tarps and obstacle courses don’t change his expression much. Neither does a little time off.
That may be the best thing about Bex: you don’t have to earn the right to enjoy him every time you saddle him. He stays gentle. He stays broke. He stays the same. No lunging the freshness off, no unnecessary nonsense — saddle up and go have a good day.
Bex isn’t being advertised as perfect because he has spots.
He’s special because underneath all that color is a safe, seasoned, honest gelding with a great mind and an even better personality.
The fact that he looks like that is just showing off.

Ivy is a 12-year-old buckskin roan mare standing 14.2 hands tall with a stout, sturdy build and one of those colors that’s hard to overlook.
Ivy isn’t being advertised as some fancy arena horse loaded with buttons — that simply isn’t what she is. She’s a good, honest little riding mare with far more miles outside than she has inside an arena. She will walk, trot and lope circles in the arena, but where Ivy really fits is out on the trail. I could also see her making a good little playday horse, queen horse or drill team horse with the right person and continued training.
She will walk, trot or lope down the trail and is happy to travel at the speed you ask of her. She crosses logs and bridges, goes through creeks and ponds, and handles hills without an issue. She will ride out alone or comfortably in a group.

Some horses impress you with what they can do. Cool Whip impresses you with how safe he makes you feel doing it.

And in my opinion, that’s worth more than anything.

Cool Whip is a 16-year-old, 15 hand grade QH gelding, and he is one I don’t think you can fully appreciate until you’ve spent a day horseback on him. He’s not the kind you have to warm up, tune on, work down, or wonder which horse you’re going to have when you saddle him.

He has spent his life earning his keep on some of the biggest ranches in Texas. He’s had long days, covered countless miles, seen rough country, cattle, traffic, commotion, and about everything else you can put in front of one. You simply cannot manufacture that kind of experience.

What makes Cool Whip special isn’t just that he’s broke—it’s that he’s trustworthy.

Put a kid on him. Put Grandma on him. Put your nervous friend on him who hasn’t ridden in 20 years. Climb on ba****ck in a halter. Carry a flag, crack a bullwhip, ride him down the highway, cross the creek, cross a ditch, or head straight into the pond. He doesn’t need to make a big deal out of anything. He just takes care of business and, more importantly, takes care of whoever is sitting on his back.

He rides one-handed, walks, trots and lopes around nice, goes wherever you point him, and stays broke whether you ride him every day or leave him standing.

There’s a huge difference between a horse somebody says is safe and a horse that has spent a lifetime proving it. Cool Whip has already put in the years, the miles and the work.
