Today marks one year since we brought Obie home. And after quarterly updates to the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program, we can finally say his adoption is finalized! Welcome “officially” to the Beaulieu Family Obie! We see many candy canes in your future.

This is a great example of why puppy classes are so important. Many members of this group were very apprehensive of the other puppies, and in some cases, the other humans. By the end of the class even the most frightened puppies were joining in the fun. Next week will be exposure to umbrellas, wheelchairs, and crutches!

For puppies under 6 months. We’ll work on the basics while helping puppies build good skills for everyday life.

🐾 Dog 101 | 10:15 AM
For dogs over 6 months who need to learn the basics or could use a refresher. A great place to build those everyday skills and strengthen your connection with your dog.

🐾 AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) | 11:30 AM
For dogs who have basic training and are ready to practice using those skills in more real-world situations. CGC testing is included!

All classes are held in Dalton on Saturdays, beginning October 17.

Due to a family emergency, I may be slower than usual to respond to messages over the next week or two. I will also not be scheduling any private sessions during this time. I appreciate your patience and understanding and will return to normal schedule and response times as soon I can.

I love this technique for encouraging horses to CHOOSE to take on a challenge.

When I first adopted Obie, he was rather frightened of tarps. He’s much less worried about them now, but he would still prefer not to interact with one by choice. So, I set up a tarp and gave him the opportunity to choose to step over it. He is allowed to avoid it. But when he decides to step outside his comfort zone and walk over the tarp, he gets a brief break and a little apple treat.

This approach helps build confidence and teaches horses that trying something new can be rewarding. Over time, it can help create a horse who is more confident and willing to approach new challenges.
