You’ve checked the fence and tucked away the cords... but what about your garden? 🌱🐾

High-energy puppies test the world with their mouths, and that includes your landscaping. A quick walk through your yard before bringing home a puppy can prevent emergency vet visits.

🚫 Yard Hazards to Remove:

Cocoa Mulch: Contains theobromine (the same compound in chocolate) and smells delicious to curious pups. Stick to standard wood mulch or pine needles!

Toxic Plants: Keep azaleas, hydrangeas, oleanders, and sago palms far out of reach.

Standing Water: Secure garden ponds or fountains where a small pup could fall in and become disoriented.

Herding breed owners, listen closely: To a Mini Aussie, a fence is NOT a boundary... it’s merely an obstacle waiting to be solved! 🧠🚧

Because these dogs are exceptionally bright and athletic, outdoor containment requires a serious perimeter audit before you turn a young pup loose.

Before giving your puppy yard access:

Check the lower gap: Ensure there are no spots larger than 2 inches where dirt has washed away under the fence line.

Audit the latches: Use carabiners or padlocks on gates so clever snouts can’t flip standard levers.

Beware of crossbeams: Wooden fences with horizontal supports can act as footholds for natural climbers!

Yesterday morning marked a bittersweet milestone at Triple Lake Ranch. I loaded up at 3:15 AM to fly out with Matcha to hand-deliver her to her new family in Seattle, Washington.

Matcha has been exceptionally special to me—something about her stole my heart early on, and I have to admit I cried like a baby letting this sweet girl go. Breeding dogs is a 24/7 commitment, but seeing our pups go to incredible homes makes every early morning worth it. Matcha is joining a wonderful young family where she will truly be the center of their world!

One of the hardest (and most expensive!) lessons I’ve learned over the last 11 years with high-drive dogs comes down to two words: electrical cords. 🔌⚡

I’ve lost count of how many fan cords, lamp cords, and computer chargers I’ve had to splice, patch, or throw straight into the trash. To a puppy, a hanging cord isn't high-voltage electricity—it’s a string cheese that plugged itself into the wall!

3 quick ways to protect your cords and your pup:
1️⃣ Split-Loom Tubing: Run exposed cords through heavy plastic conduit from the hardware store.
2️⃣ Cable Clips: Anchor cords high off the floor along baseboards so paws can't reach.
3️⃣ Furniture Anchoring: Tuck cords completely behind heavy desks or entertainment centers.
