🥹 Six pounds of pure sweetness, and three very big fans!

Meet Auggie, an adorable 5-year-old Chihuahua who recently visited White Bear Animal Hospital for a dental procedure that included extractions.

Before his procedure, Dr. Prochnow and Licensed Veterinary Technicians Anne and Alyssa performed his pre-procedure exam and, of course, gave him some extra love. Because seriously, how could anyone resist that face?! 😍

🩺 Did you know that blood pressure matters for pets, too?

Just like humans, dogs and cats can experience both high and low blood pressure, and monitoring those numbers can tell us a lot about their overall health!

So, why does blood pressure matter?

❤️ High blood pressure (hypertension) can sometimes go unnoticed but may damage important organs, including the eyes, kidneys, heart, and brain.

💙 Low blood pressure (hypotension) can reduce blood flow to vital organs and may occur with dehydration, blood loss, certain illnesses, or during anesthesia.

🐾 Regular monitoring matters! Blood pressure checks can be especially important for senior pets, pets with certain medical conditions, and patients undergoing anesthesia or receiving treatment for serious illnesses.

Meet Geordi! This handsome little guy is officially ready for spooky season, and we're pretty sure those puppy-dog eyes could convince just about anyone to hand over an extra treat. 🥹🧡

Now that we've got your attention with this adorable face, let's talk about something important: Pet Obesity Awareness!

We all love spoiling our pets, especially when they look at us like Geordi does! But extra treats, table scraps, and oversized portions can add up over time. Maintaining a healthy weight is about much more than appearance. Excess weight can contribute to joint pain, diabetes, reduced mobility, and other health concerns.

Here are a few ways to help your pet maintain a healthy weight:

🐾 Treats count, too! Keep treats to no more than 10% of your pet's daily calories.

🥣 Portions matter! Measure meals rather than guessing. Your pet's nutritional needs depend on their age, size, activity level, and overall health.

👀 Look beyond the scale! A healthy weight isn't just about the number. The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) uses a Body Condition Score to help determine whether pets are underweight, overweight, or at a healthy weight.

Sometimes a spay is more than preventive care. For Daisy, it was the treatment she needed. 💙

Sweet Daisy, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever, recently came to White Bear Animal Hospital for surgery with Dr. Dalton after developing pyometra, a serious infection of the uterus.

Pyometra can develop in unspayed female dogs and cats, often in the weeks following a heat cycle. The infection can progress quickly and become life-threatening, making prompt veterinary care incredibly important. Treatment commonly involves surgery to remove the infected uterus and ovaries.

Thankfully, Daisy received the care she needed, and seeing that happy Golden smile alongside Dr. Dalton and Steph made our day a little brighter. 🥹💙

Daisy’s story is also an important reminder of one of the health benefits of spaying: once the uterus is removed, pyometra can no longer develop.

Here’s to healing, feeling better, and plenty more reasons to smile, Daisy!

🎃 Spooky season? Pumpkin is READY.

Pumpkin showed up in his pumpkin PJs and clearly understood the assignment. 😂 With Veronica, LVT, by his side, he may just be our first official contender for best dressed of spooky season!

We love it when our patients bring a little personality to their visits, and Pumpkin’s festive look definitely made our team smile. 🧡
