Red, white, blue, and the Good Zoo! 🐾

Join us every Friday in July as we celebrate America 250 with patriotic, family-friendly activities at the Good Zoo.

Kick things off on Friday, July 3 from 12–2 PM with patriotic animal enrichment activities, hands-on fun, and a special Bald Eagle Keeper Talk at 2 PM. Families can help create red, white, and blue enrichment items for the animals while learning how enrichment supports animal wellbeing and care.

Celebrate wildlife, conservation, and America 250 with us all month long!

🚗🎉 Move over, everyone… there’s a new driver on the road!

We recently celebrated Magellan’s 16th birthday, and it looks like he’s already picked out his first set of wheels. 😎🐾

Help us wish this birthday boy a happy sweet 16!

☀️ When temperatures rise, the animal care team at the Good Zoo helps keep the animals comfortable with extra shade, frozen treats (or "popsicles"), and cooling water features.

Bobbi the bobcat had a fun way to beat the heat, searching through a pool of ice to find her dinner! 🧊🐾

Have you spotted Rocco lately? 👀

Southern three-banded armadillos can sometimes be tricky to find in their habitat. That's because they are primarily nocturnal and spend much of the day tucked away in the substrate.

In the wild, these armadillos rest under brush, inside hollow logs, or in burrows abandoned by other animals. While they don't dig their own burrows, their long claws are perfect for digging up one of their favorite meals: ants and termites!

🐍 Pretzel the tentacled snake spends most of their time beneath the water's surface, but they occasionally come up for air, just like in this photo.

When underwater, tentacled snakes use specialized tissue to seal their nostrils, allowing them to hold their breath for up to 30 minutes. On either side of their nostrils are two unique tentacles, which scientists believe help them detect or even lure prey such as fish, frogs, and crabs.

Have you ever seen a tentacled snake before? 👀

🕷️ Enrichment is important for animals of all kinds! Providing opportunities for physical and mental stimulation helps support overall wellbeing and encourages natural behaviors.

Harriett the tarantula enjoys visual enrichment, and one of her favorite items is her mirror! Sometimes the simplest enrichment opportunities can spark the most interest.

Have you ever seen a tarantula check out its reflection?

Ruffed lemurs are known for their intelligence, so enrichment is an important part of their daily routine. While they enjoy foraging challenges, they also love getting new items to climb on and lounge in.

Fresca seems pretty happy with her latest "furniture." 😄

Sailor’s joey is growing up fast. 💚 Around 6 months old, you may start to spot the joey peeking out from mom’s pouch. As they continue to grow, they’ll begin grazing on solid foods alongside mom while still nursing in the pouch.

By around 7 months old, joeys often start hopping out to explore their surroundings before returning to mom’s pouch for warmth, comfort, and safety. 🦘
