The Good Zoo is home to two red kangaroos, Melba and Piper. 🦘 Melba arrived at the zoo in 2011 and gave birth to Piper in 2012. With an average lifespan of around 9.5 years, both ladies are considered geriatric.
Red kangaroos are the largest species of kangaroo, with males typically growing about twice the size of females. In their native Australian habitats, they feed on grasses, leaves, and other vegetation. At the Good Zoo, our kangaroos and wallabies enjoy a specialized chow diet along with fresh fruits and vegetables. 🥕🥬
Although red kangaroos are abundant throughout their range, they still face challenges related to habitat destruction and hunting.
