Happy National Dog Day! 🐾💙

Every dog has something that makes their tail wag. For Griff, it's paddleboarding!

Today we're celebrating all the dogs who fill our lives with love, laughter, adventure, and companionship. Whether your pup loves chasing balls, walks, swimming, car rides, or relaxing on the couch, we want to hear about it.

🤓 Benny's Back-to-School Tip:

Be sure to provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and quality time to help your furry family members with the back-to-school transition. 📚✏️

A new school year means new routines for the whole family, including our pets. As the house gets quieter and schedules become busier, some pets may need extra time to adjust.

We wish everyone a safe, healthy, and successful school year!

🦇 Important local health reminder for pet owners: DuPage County has reported several bats testing positive for rabies. While the risk to most pets is low, rabies is a fatal disease and prevention is key. Rabies prevention starts with keeping pets current on their vaccinations and avoiding direct contact with wildlife. If you have concerns about a potential pet exposure or your pet's vaccination status, please contact your veterinarian. Our team is always happy to help answer questions.

6 bats have tested positive for rabies—4 of those cases were confirmed just within the last week.

Rabies is a deadly virus, so it is important to protect your pets and yourself:

• Keep pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Even indoor pets can be exposed if a bat enters your home.

• Never touch a bat—even if it appears injured or unable to fly. If you find a bat in your home or suspect contact with a human or pet, call your non-emergency police for assistance.

• Stay informed. The DuPage County Health Department has issued a public alert about preventing rabies.

🆘 Pet Safety Tip!

With so much ⛈⛈ (stop already!) mushrooms are starting to pop up not only in the woods, but also in yards. A mushroom might be intriguing to curious canines.

The number of truly toxic mushrooms is small but there many species of mushrooms with a variety of characteristics making identification quite complicated. If you aren’t a “mushroom expert”, it’s best to assume that all wild mushrooms are harmful until proven otherwise. Remove mushrooms from your yard. Patrol regularly because mushrooms pop up quickly! 🍄👀

The severity of mushroom induced illness depends on the type and number of mushrooms ingested and it can affect various parts of the body including the GI tract, liver, kidneys, or brain.

If your pet ingests wild mushrooms, call a veterinarian right away and keep a sample of the mushroom if possible.

Tomorrow is actually International Cat Day, BUT we couldn't wait to share these adorable kittens, Harley and Sy! 🐾

We're getting an early start because, let's be honest... according to our feline family members, EVERY day is Cat Day. Wouldn't you agree?

Did you know cats can be good for your health? Studies show cats may help improve sleep quality, reduce stress, ease anxiety and depression, and even improve your dating life (looking at you, single men!😼)

How are you and your fabulous feline celebrating this weekend?

😸🎉 Let us know in the comments and share a photo of your cat!
