Yesterday was a bittersweet day for the Garwood Family. Carey brought Gus’ Mom to visit with Gus and Clara for about 3 hours. Great visit. Lots of cuddle time.
Mike and I made arrangements to visit with the pups and picked up Family Express double bacon cheeseburgers and donut holes for Gus. While on the way we received a call that Gus just passed away, we were so close but missed him. He waited for Carey to come home and passed away on his own terms in her arms.
He will be missed by everyone that had met him. He was a true gentle giant with the will to live and tried so hard. Gus and Clara made it to a loving home and now Clara will be cherished and spoiled by Brian and Carey. Their Mom #1 will be able to visit Clara whenever she wants. She never wanted to surrender them but life threw her a curve ball.
Thank you to everyone that helped Gus!!!! Donated for Gus’ care. Prayed for and loved Gus!!
He will be missed.

Meet Tank!! Tank is a 3 1/2 year old male black Great Dane. He loves attention, a little fearful of men but warms up and will not be placed with kids younger than 10 years old. Tank likes other dogs but he does not like cats. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, on heartworm preventative and dewormed. Please visit our website for an application.

As many of you know, the plan was always for Carey to adopt both Gus and Clara. From the very beginning, something incredibly special happened between Gus and Carey. Gus immediately latched onto her, and she fell just as deeply in love with him. ❤️
You could see it every time Carey walked through the front door—Gus would light up. That beautiful boy knew his person had arrived. And Clara… well, Clara was the extra bonus puppy who completed their little family. ❤️🐾
This week we received the news we had been praying we would never have to hear. After countless blood tests, vet visits, treatments, and testing, it appears that Gus has bone cancer along with IMPA.
There really are no words for the heartbreak that comes with hearing something like this.
But through all of the sadness, there is one thing we can be certain of: Gus is loved. So very, very loved.
Carey will be taking Gus and Clara home today, where Gus can spend his remaining time surrounded by the people who love him most, in a home filled with comfort, warmth, and love. Beth (OG Mom) will also be able to visit more often, and those moments together are going to mean everything. ❤️
And because Gus and Clara deserve nothing but the very best, these two precious pups will be riding home in style—in a limo! 🚙❤️
As we packed up Gus's things, it was almost overwhelming to see just how much love has surrounded this boy. His futon, harnesses, wheels, favorite toys, special food, treats, and all of the things that have helped him along the way were carefully packed up to go home with him.
I once said that Gus would walk again.
And he did.
He walked as far as his giant body would allow him to, and he fought so hard to keep going. Before he became sick again, he gave us that gift. He showed us his strength, his determination, and his incredible spirit.
And right now, Gus is happy. He is surrounded by love. And, for now, he is pain-free. ❤️
That is what we will hold onto.
To every single person who has been part of Gus's journey—thank you.
Thank you for donating.
Thank you for transporting him.
Thank you for caring for him.
Thank you for bringing him food and supplies.
Thank you for volunteering your time.
Thank you for loving him.
Thank you for praying for him.
Thank you for believing in him when his journey wasn't easy.
And to our amazing volunteers who helped Gus every step of the way, there will never be enough words to express our gratitude. You gave your time, your energy, your hearts, and so much love to this special boy. ❤️
Gus's story may not be ending the way we hoped it would, but please know that his life has been filled with something that every dog deserves—love, kindness, family, and people who never gave up on him.
His journey mattered.
His life matters.
And every moment we have left with him matters.
So please, keep Gus in your prayers. Pray for comfort, peace, and many more happy moments with the people he loves. Pray that he continues to feel nothing but love surrounding him.
Thank you for loving Gus. Thank you for being part of his story. And thank you for helping us give this sweet boy the beautiful life he deserves. ❤️🐾

It’s my turn!!! Guess what? I found my forever family, well I helped because I am a good boy. I was a little nervous when we left the Dog House but we turned a different direction than the vet. I was just there and I fell asleep and now I was missing some things. Hmmmmmm. Suspicious. I’m a healthy dog.
I was going home they said. Woohooo!!!! I have my own girl to protect now and I’m hoping to play in the toy tent. I know they are her toys but I can sit in there with her. I have my own back yard that I don’t have to share with Fin.
I think my family will love me as much as I love them.

Good morning!!! I wanted to share my news with you!!! I was ADOPTED. YEP, it’s true. I heard I got an application but they wanted to make sure it was a great one. My Mom made an appointment after she checked out perfect for me. It was love at first sight. We went for a walk so I could show her I was a skilled walker. We played for awhile and I was head over paws for her.
The volunteers packed up my belongings and my folder and off we went to do the home check. I’m going to miss the Dog House and the volunteers because I liked it there. I made forever friends!!!
I could not wait to get out of the car when I saw my Mom waiting in the driveway. Amanda got in my way a little but I got passed her.
I’M HOME!!!! I couldn’t ask for a better Mom.

Dunder wants to know why he is not getting any notice or applications. He was gifted a cow toy and matching blanket for being such a good boy at one of our events, Paws & Pastries. He plays with other dogs but he is a vocal player which means he talks the entire time he is playing. He means no harm just a chatty fellow. He keeps his kennel clean and loves snuggle time. Dunder is a Great Dane mix, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and on heartworm preventative. Give him a second chance and fill out an application. We do reference checks, vet checks and home checks.
