October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month. 🐾

Most pit bulls have a short, single coat with no protective undercoat.

That leaves very little between their skin and everything it touches: grass, pollen, dust, carpet cleaner, and whatever shampoo you use.

Starting early helps new sounds, smells, people, and handling become familiar while they're still little. 🐾

Regular visits help puppies get comfortable with the parts of grooming they'll experience throughout their lives, from having their paws touched to being bathed by an expert groomer. 🛁

Early, consistent grooming helps pups build healthy habits for life. Start with a positive introduction now, then keep visits consistent as they grow.

September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month, an AKC-designated month with Responsible Dog Ownership Day landing on Saturday, September 19th this year. 💚 🐾

It's a good excuse to look at the parts of dog care that don't get talked about much.

So here's the case for grooming as a health responsibility rather than a cosmetic one.🛁

Warm weather means longer walks and more time outside. But excessive heat can be unsafe for dogs, and they don't always slow themselves down.

Early signals to watch for:

🐾 Ears that feel warm to the touch
🐾 Gums that look bright red or unusually pale
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 Frantic panting

💚 Stay ahead of the heat and keep your pup cool + fresh.

🐶💚 It is National Senior Dog Day 🐾

💚 National Senior Dog Day on August 3rd exists to recognize that. It started as a way to draw attention to older dogs in shelters, who are routinely passed over in favor of puppies and younger dogs, despite having just as much love to give. 🏡❤️

👉 Learn More: https://www.bowiebarker.com/blog/celebrating-senior-dog-day

🐾 It has grown into something broader: a day to celebrate the senior dogs already in our homes and to think seriously about what they need from us as they get older. 🦴✨

💛 Not every grooming environment suits an older dog. When you are choosing where to bring a senior, a few things matter more than they would for a younger one. 🛁🐕

🐾 Patience is at the top of the list. Senior dogs take longer. They may need breaks. 💤 They may have less tolerance for noise or extended standing. A groomer who rushes is not the right fit. 🤍🐶
