It's Staff Pets Sunday! Meet Kaylee's furry family!

🐾 Meet the crew:
- Freya Mackenzie, a 4-year-old grey tabby. She is the laziest cat her mom has ever met. She always finds special spots around the house to claim for days on end.

πŸ’— Kaylee says the most rewarding part of being a pet owner is that Freya is the best snuggle buddy and loves taking naps with her.

βš• Her tip for other pet owners is to make sure that you're financially ready for medical issues because something WILL happen.

It's time for our Case of the Week! Meet Chickie -

🐣 Chickie's mom brought her in for lameness on her right foot, toe discoloration, and swelling of both feet.
βš• Dr. Kelleher performed her physical exam and determined that Chickie has an interdigital abscess on her right foot. She prescribed an antibiotic and a pain medication.
πŸ’• Chickie is adorable and we can't wait to watch her grow up!

It's Staff Pets Sunday! Meet Riley's furry family!

🐾 Meet the crew:
- Luna, an 8-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. She loves hiking, but is the problem child of the group.

- Ezekiel, an 8-year-old grey tabby. Definitely obsessed with his mom. He is a medical nightmare, but his mom still thinks he's perfect in every way.

- Faye, a 1-year-old tuxedo. Riley's most recent addition. She is Ezekiel's best friend. Loves head scratches and cuddling with her mom.

- Mango, a 5-year-old leopard gecko. He loves sunning himself and chasing crickets around his enclosure.

πŸ’— Riley says that the most rewarding part of being a pet owner is always having someone to come home to.

βš• Her best tip for other pet owners is to educate yourself on the common behavioral and health problems associated with your pet's breed and plan accordingly.

It's time for our Case of the Week! Meet this handsome boy, Kylo -

🐾 Kylo came to CCAE for vomiting, drooling, and acting lethargic. He also hadn't eaten since the day before. After obtaining vitals and performing a physical exam, Dr. Schulze recommended bloodwork and x-rays.
βš• Kylo's diagnostics were suspicious for gastritis and pancreatitis. His x-rays also showed evidence of spondylosis and osteophyte formation (bone spurs). The medical team treated him with fluids under the skin and an anti-nausea injection. Dr. Schulze sent Kylo home on a pain medication for his skeletal changes and a bland diet.

It's Staff Pets Sunday! Here's Dr. Schulze's furry family!

🐾 Meet the crew:
- Gerry, a 10-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix. She is a foster fail who has special needs.

- Hubble, a 2-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog. He is commonly referred to as "Hubble Trouble." This puppy is giving Dr. Schulze a run for her money.

πŸ’— Dr. Schulze says that the most rewarding part of being a pet owner is always coming home to a happy face and tail.

βš• Her advice for other pet owners is to be patient with puppies. The more work you put into training early, the better. Early socialization is key!

It's time for our Case of the Week! Meet little Mia -

🐾 Mia was running around outside when she suddenly fell and began crying. When she got up, she was limping on her left front leg. Her parents brought her to CCAE right away. Mia received a pain medication, then the team took x-rays of her leg.
βš• Dr. Schulze reviewed Mia's x-rays and determined that she had fractured her humerus. She recommended Mia be sedated for a splint placement. Check out this extra-small, extra-cute splint!
πŸ’• Mia went home with pain medications and will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon. We wish the best for this sweet girl!

Welcome to our new series - Staff Pets Sunday! Tune in every Sunday at 5:00pm to meet our furry family, hear the most rewarding parts of being a pet owner, and get tips from the crew! Let's kick things off with Colleen P.!

🐾 Meet the crew:
- Nico: A 2- year-old Great Dane mix. He is a large and agile boy who loves trampolines and running around.

- Penny: A 3-year-old German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix. She is a tripod (3-legged), an attention hog, and loves water and her mom.

- Noodle: An 11-year-old orange tabby. She loves time outside and cuddles. She goes crazy for catnip.

- Pirate: A less than 1-year-old grey tabby. He is THE problem child. With one eye and bad joints, he still manages to terrorize the household and wake everyone up at night.

πŸ’— Colleen says that the most rewarding part of being a pet owner is their trust, love, and having them as companions.

βš• Colleen's tips for other pet owners are that training is a wonderful tool, best started young, and maintained. Basic yearly care like bloodwork, vaccines, and preventatives makes such a big impact on their health, especially as they age. Always be prepared for unexpected expenses!

It's time for our Case of the Week! Meet R***r -

🍫 R***r's family brought him in after he got into a large bag of Hershey's Kisses. After inducing vomiting, he produced 158 Hershey kisses! Based on how many kisses were projected to be in the bag and how many R***r brought back up when vomiting, there was now a low chance for toxicosis.
πŸ’• R***r received fluids under the skin and an anti-nausea medication before going home to be monitored by his family for hyperexcitability and seizures. Before leaving, though, he got lots of love from the medical team!
