The Boxer Transfer Network

The Boxer Transfer Network Our mission is evolving: we are all about the dogs. Basically, in entirety, our purpose is to do good things for dogs. Amanda and Irene were facebook friends.

We aim to make a perilous situation, something wonderful, one dog at a time. The Boxer Transfer Network was born in March 2012, with one dog, a family in need and a very special facebook group: Boxers are the Best Breed of Dog God Ever Created. Amanda Brangard worked at the Fayette SPCA in Uniontown PA. Irene Bain was an avid and vocal boxer (and all dog) advocate. Amanda constantly posted pictur

es of dogs in need. Irene, belonging to several boxer groups, crossposted Amanda’s pleas. In another white boxer group, Irene was touched by Sheryl Sauceman’s loss of Duke, her white boxer. Irene reached out to Sheryl and they began talking. When Irene posted Amanda’s photo of Hooch and the urgent plea for help, Sheryl said she wanted to help. Both Sheryl and Amanda were hopeful but skeptical as Amanda was in Uniontown PA and Sheryl was in Chatanooga TN. Irene told them if they could work it out, she would make it happen. Within a few hours Amanda had coordinated with the SPCA and got the approval. Forced into action, Irene wrote this FB post:

“OKAY BOXER LOVERS: WE NEED YOUR HELP. This is our chance to make Boxer are the best breed of dogs God ever created!!!! more than just a Facebook group--this is your chance to make a difference and save one dog. You'll also be helping another human too, but I'm keeping the focus on the Boxer here....Unless you’re a member of We Love White Boxers --you don't know that Sheryl Chesky Sauceman lost her wonderful, sweet, lovely Duke, about two weeks ago, to his third go round with cancer. Sheryl has been posting about the events at her house, and about her remaining dog Doby--crying out of lonliness. It's been very heartbreaking. Sheryl is also a member of this group, but I'm not sure she posted the story of his death here. Amanda Brangard did post about Hoochie here. He's a white boxer--dumped at the SPCA in PA where she works, with a female. His prior owner intended to breed them. (His prior owner was an idiot.) The female was adopted but Hoochie remains. Amanda has been desperately trying to find a home for him. The SPCA does euthanize and his number is approaching. The long and short of the story is Sheryl would like to adopt Hoochie and give him a forever home--putting a happy twist to two pathetic stories. Sheryl is in Chatatnooga Tennessee and Hoochie is in PA. We have 4659 members to date. I'd love to see us do something and make an impact. Lets save one Boxer. You don't even have to keep him, just drive him toward Tennessee. If you would be willing to take part in helping to shuttle Hoochie from PA to Tenn--please comment on this thread. We'd like to have a enough participants that it's not too much for anyone. Just think: GOOD KARMA COMES BACK TO YOU....you may need a transfer train one day....and Amanda, Sheryl and I will all be here to help. Later this evening we will post a listing of the states (and /or areas) where need need drivers. Come on guys--don't let me down.....”
The responses came fast and furious and Boxers are the Best Breed of Dog God Ever Created did not disappoint. One very exciting Sunday afternoon, with many many members pinned to their computers: Amanda Brangard, Sheila Smith, Nancy McHugh Dickerson, Gail and Mike Dickerson, Michael Whilhelm and Sheryl Sauceman successfully transported Hooch Sauceman from deathrow to Sheryl and The Boxer Transfer Network was born!!! After that Sunday everyone was elated. Irene decided that the need for aide was overwhelming and reached out to Amanda to make The Boxer Transfer Network official. Irene filed the Maryland Non-profit paperwork in June 2012. The Boxer Transfer Network received 501C3 status in November of 2012. Today, Irene, Amanda, Sheila Smith, Lisa Sergeant, Helen Devlin, Barb Willis and Kelly Jaeger and many other volunteers make up the behind the scenes team at the BTN. Although credit is attributed to each and every person who supports in any way. We work tirelessly to rescue dogs from perilous situations, whatever they may be and we are open to everyone who shares this mindset. The Boxer Transfer Network has flourished. Volunteers have rescued over 60 dogs and placed 52+ into loving homes. We would not exist without the generosity of our members. Volunteers have offered transportation, finances, basic necessities for the animals, countless hours, and some have even opened their homes and businesses to foster a dogs in need. There is no paid salary and no day off, but the rewards are beyond measure. This is a labor of love for all of us. The passion of one has spread to the passion of many and we continue to grow. Join our Facebook group and like our page and find out more about how you can help today!

UPDATE: 05/19/2026 - Thank you to everyone that donated. We already had another emergency call with Styx becoming frantic, not being able to p*e or p**p, just hours after I posted the original post below on the 15th. Irene called Dr Vaughn and he came to drain the tumor. We were able to pay him thanks to your donations.
The Gaithersburg vet feels Styx has a mass in his stomach. I believe this is separate from the white pellet filled growth from his behind, but I'm not quite sure. Maybe it all stems from the same mass. She feels Palatine care is best until Styx tells us it's time. Right now, as long as the fluid is drained regularly, he's his happy and crazy self.
Remember Karma didn't have a great prognosis either. Annapolis said they wouldn't be able to remove her entire tumor. But they were wrong and were able to remove it. Two plus years later, and she's still doing well. We feel we should at least get a consult from them for Styx. Irene already has a call into them about it.
Dr Vaughn's bill, although very reasonable at less than $300 (maybe $275), did use most of what was donated. That, along with a consult visit with Annapolis means we still need more funds. If you're able, please please help. And please share.

LONG POST, BUT PLEASE READ.

I'm not sure where to even start, but we have a dire situation with Styx. It's been going on for months now. We just haven't posted anything. Irene discovered 2 growths, one on his side and one on his behind (talk about Deja Vu with Karma). Surgery was scheduled back at the middle of March to remove both. The growth on his side was a mast cell and was removed (grade 2 with clean margins). The one on his behind, they couldn't tell us what it was. It also wasn't removed like was intended. There was too much of a risk, and I can't remember what that risk was now. Maybe hemorrhage? Irene Bain can you clarify?
They did lance it, which revealed red tinged fluid and small white pellets, and they put a drain in. The first picture shows the constant blood that dripped from him for quite some time.
We opted not to have a biopsy done due to cost. We hadn't posted for donations so we were using what funds we could and the rest went on the credit card. A biopsy would have been $400 more. Maybe we should have posted, I don't know. Our posts don't seem to be reaching many of you and the donation posts we do put up have resulted in very little for a long time now. And we're grateful for the little we do get, for every single cent. But I already had a post up asking for donations just to cover food, meds, and litter, so it seemed pointless to do another.
We did decide to have an ultrasound done last Saturday. We felt we no longer had a choice. Based on the results, the vet feels it's cancer; could be hemangiosarcoma or another type. But we honestly don't know what to think about this vet practice. They haven't been very helpful. It's like they've written him off already. They said he's severely anemic, yet didn't offer any meds for it. They couldn't remove this tumor, yet never prescribed prednisone for the inflammation. Irene can't even get them to return her calls! And Dr Vaughn (home vet) said Styx's anemia certainly wasn't severe, as they stated.
Since the surgery, this thing is of course growing. Styx has had trouble going to the bathroom a few times and had to be taken in to have the tumor drained. The last time was this past Sunday, and Irene had to go to an entirely different vet, as the regular vet was closed, and the ER said they wouldn't touch him. She ended up in Gaithersburg, I believe. They were super helpful and were able to drain the tumor (pictures attached). They said Styx should have been prescribed prednisone long ago. And I agree that he absolutely should have. They prescribed it for him and he's been a happy boy ever since. But the tumor will fill back up again. The Gaithersburg vet didn't feel that Styx was being given very good care at his normal vet. Obviously, we've been questioning that ourselves. Even if they're right and this is cancer, he deserves to be given meds and supportive care to keep it at bay for as long as possible. He still has a very high quality of life. He's acting perfectly normal. We don't know what to think about their theory that the ultrasound indicates cancer. We don't know what to do next, other than stop using this vet. Do they really want us to sit back, do nothing, and just watch him die? Or just euthanize him now? Maybe there isn't anything else that can be done. But what if there is?
Should we look into having the tumor removed? Could we even pay for it if it can be removed? We have less than $200 in cash and the limit on the credit card has climbed significantly with paying for the March surgery, the ultrasound, and all the visits to drain the tumor. Our heads are spinning, especially Irene's. She's watched it unfold from the beginning and continues to live it everyday. Please feel free to give us your input, thoughts, opinions, maybe experience with something like this. Because we need help.
Also, we've held out as long as we can without asking for donations for Styx, but we need them desperately now. Dr Vaughn has agreed to come to the house to drain the tumor if it's needed. That's at least peace of mind, especially if it becomes emergent on the weekends again like last week. But we can't use the credit card to pay Dr Vaughn. He doesn't take credit cards. We need cash. Please help, please share, please help get this post seen.

Karma need her chemo meds
Hey everyone. It's been quite sometime since I posted for help with Karma's chemo meds (Palladia). We've been absorbing the cost, but with donations at an all time low, we simply don't have the funds to order them this time. The cost is just shy of $800. Please help us if you can.

KARMA'S APPOINTMENT IS THURSDAY!!!
We canceled once and here we are again. We currently don't have enough. The estimate (attached) is $3500! We are working on getting this changed. This $2000 to $3000+ every 6 to 8 weeks is just not sustainable anymore. We haven't gotten enough to cover the visits for the past few appointments. We've had to cancel, we've had to use the credit card, and we just can't continue like this. However, we're trying to get her to this one last visit so we can get her Palladia until we can talk to another vet about prescribing it. We're sure this vet will want to see her from time to time as well. But at a much cheaper cost without the cardiology and oncology tests, etc. Because realistically, if a problem were to arise with her heart or finding cancer again, we wouldn't put her through another surgery. Please help if you can. Payment methods are attached. Thanks so much.

Our funds are critically low 😩
Funds are critically important in any rescue. Whether it be for new arrivals or current residents, we can't survive without them. Right now, our intakes have drastically slowed. A decrease in donations is part of the reason why. We have dogs and cats in our care, that will most likely remain in our care, for the remainder of their lives, because that's what's best for them. But since Facebook changed whatever it is that they changed that limits who sees our posts, it's been a constant worry and struggle just trying to cover the normal day to day costs for those already with us, much less bringing in more animals. Vet bills, food costs, litter costs, medications, and emergency care don’t stop. Donations have slowed, but the need has not.

We've had to revisit Karma's oncology visits every 8 weeks. She's coming due again. But we're going to have to stop them. She'll still need her Palladia. We're hoping the general practice vet that Irene's been using will prescribe them for her. The oncology vet WILL NOT without those 8 week check ups.

Our recent addition of Bougie took a toll. It cost us $500+ for his vaccines and neuter. Our normal adoption fee is $400. So you see why we fear taking on what we once did.

Cats are a whole other story. They're everywhere because they're discarded like trash, and find me no matter what. They're harder to get adopted and less people are approved for cats than dogs. In this rescue anyway.

Some of you may remember that I posted for donations last summer to pay for some spays/neuters for some outside cats that a friend is feeding. We were able to have 5 or 6 done. There's many more there that need done and kitten season is right around the corner. I DO NOT want more pregnancies and kittens being born outside. I'd love to get the rest done and stop the cycle there. And it would be great to contribute to the cost for that again. I'm working on vouchers to help with the cost as well.

So once again, here I am, asking you to donate if you are able. Every donation, no matter the amount, truly makes a huge difference.

Donation info is in the first comment and also in the last picture. We try to avoid links now as a way to maybe avoid FB targeting posts and limiting the audience. Not sure if it makes a difference or not. I recently read an article that the limits are geared toward groups, as they want to phase them out. It said pages are better. I don't know if that's true or not.

Pictures are Bougie representing the dogs and Charlie representing the cats. And the wire is just one of the many that Charlie chewed off of the Christmas tree. That kitten has chewed every wire, completely through, that he could get to throughout the whole house! And yes, they were all plugged in! I watched them all like a hawk and none of them showed any interest in the tree. So he was a sly one. I only know it was him because the camera caught him in action 🤣

Thank you everyone!

Pepper (fka Jazmine) stopping in to say Hi and Merry Christmas!
Chris says she’s still doing amazing and is as happy as can be. She still loves her long walks around the neighborhood, and she really enjoyed playing in the snow a couple of weeks ago. They took her on a road trip over the summer to the beach with their niece and nephew, and they had so much fun together.
Here are some photos from the past couple of months. And also a video in the comments. I can't post both videos and pictures on the page. It's a feature that isn't available for pages.

I know I know, I'm posting for donations again. I'm sorry. It's just a necessary and ongoing thing.
Both our PayPal and Venmo accounts have next to nothing in them. I don't think we have more than $300 to $400 between the 2. To say we've been struggling, is an understatement. There's been alot of expenses on both the dog end and cat end.
I think most of you know that I pay for the majority of the cats' everyday expenses myself. I know I've ask for more help with that here lately. But still not a ton considering how little I'm able to make it to work the last 6 months since Maggie's issues started. She does have cancer and I'm grateful she's still doing as well as she is with that. She's 13. She'll be 14 on January 7, God willing she's still here. She's got some doggie dementia going on, or hell maybe it's just throwing tantrums. I really don't know. I just know she will not tolerate me "leaving" her. And I don't just mean leaving her at home alone, which I only do if I absolutely can't take her with me. I mean, I can't go to the bathroom, take a shower, walk in a room that she can't follow me to, because it's gated to keep the dogs from eating the cat food, without her having an episode of the 3 P's —Pacing, Peeing, and Pooping. This is a dog that never had accidents in the house. Except occasionally if it was raining outside. But hey, she's a Princess and Princess's can't be expected to endure such nasty things.
It isn't her fault, my poor girl. It's just very time consuming. Thankfully I'm self-employed and don't have to answer to anyone. But you don't make money if you aren't there. So there's that.
Then Irene has had one thing after another with the dogs. Karma's ongoing care for her cancer, Honey needs daily meds to thin the mucus in her nose so she can breathe, Cameo was diagnosed with Cushings, but the meds did nothing to help, so the jury is still out on whether or not something else is going on. And Brownie is coming tomorrow, and we know he at least needs neutered. We aren't sure what else he may need yet.
I realize Christmas is less than a week away and everyone has had the added expense that the season brings. I don't want anyone to over extend themselves. If you're able to and willing to donate even a few dollars, it certainly would help. If you can't, I get it and it's ok. The donation addresses are in the first picture. We do it this way rather than including the links in the actual post to see if it makes a difference in the visibility our posts receive.
Included are some pictures of my beautiful Maggie just because. Sadly, this is likely the last picture we'll get of her with Santa, since the odds are stacked against her making it another year. But, 6.5 months ago, we didn't think she'd make it for this Santa picture. So you just never know. Good night everyone!

Karma’s oncology appointment is next week… and we’re running out of time. We currently have about $900, but we still need another $1100–$1500 to make sure she can get the care she desperately needs. 😞

This entire year has been a constant, heavy worry. Donations just aren’t coming in the way they used to, and each month gets harder than the last.
This past year has been unbelievably hard. Donations have slowed significantly, while the needs just keep growing. What most never see or consider are all the other needs piling up behind the scenes — the dog food, the cat food, the litter, the medications, the vet visits for several other dogs over the past two months, and even more coming up. And every single Monday, through December 29, we have vet appointments for the cats. I have four more going in this coming Monday, 2 days from now. It's never ending.

Irene and I have been paying for so much of it ourselves, but we’re at the point where we simply can’t keep doing it. We're drowning. And we're exhausted…emotionally, financially…just completely exhausted.

We have had some recent donations come in, and we're so grateful. We were able to cover a couple vet visits, at least in part, and I was able to buy some food and litter. Everything is truly appreciated.

I know our posts are being hidden, so many people never even see our pleas. I don’t know if there are other factors causing such a heartbreaking drop in support or not. But right now, we are truly at a breaking point.

Please… if you can help at all — even a few dollars — it would mean more than you know. And please, please share this. Every share helps more eyes see our needs.

I’m begging… please help us keep going. Karma needs you. We need you 💔

Sophie was spayed on November 6. Tabitha, Sabrina, and Sylvester (Winston) went for their annual exams and vaccines 2 days ago, on November 10. Sophie's bill was $290 and it was $173 for the other three. I only received $215 in donations, to which I am very grateful. But we have more vet trips coming up, and we didn't get enough to cover these 2. If you can help at all, I'd really appreciate it. Ways to donate are below.
Thanks everyone

💔 These Kittens Desperately Need a Chance 💔

I’m begging for help. These kittens are living outside right now. Tomorrow, they’ll be going to a clinic to be spayed and neutered through Bridgette Gill and her TNR organization.

Bridgette is incredible — she does more for cats than most full rescues, carefully screens adopters, everything. And she's a one-woman operation as well. She can place the younger babies, but she has no space for the older kittens or the adults (three females and one male). Without fosters, they’ll have no choice but to be released back outside.

They don’t deserve to go back to a life of struggling to survive. They deserve warmth, safety, and love — things every living being should have.

I know cats don’t always get the same attention as dogs. But why? A life is a life — no matter if it purrs or barks. They feel fear, love, and pain just the same. These sweet souls didn’t ask to be born at all, much less be born outside or forgotten. They just need someone to care.

Cats are the most abused, misunderstood, overlooked, and thrown-away animals in existence, but together, we can change that.

Even one “yes” can change everything for them. 💕
Don’t scroll past. You could be the reason these little ones finally get a chance to live. 💔🐾
