Sarafina is poking out to say hello! If you come visit the shelter, you may not spot her. That's because she prefers to spend her days curled up under a blanket, nice and cozy.

Sarafina is a shy but sweet cat that might take a little time to adjust to her new home, but once she does she's quite fond of affection and catnip toys. She arrived to us as a stray and is learning how great it is to be safe, warm and loved on.

Come visit Sarafina at the shelter today, and if you can't find her, we'd be happy to introduce you 🙂

A message from our shelter dogs: summer is heating up, and with it comes safety risks you should know to keep your pet cool and safe.

🐾 Stay out of the sun and off the hot pavement. Protect those paws and save long walks for the coolest parts of the day.

💧 Keep the water bowls full and bring some when you leave the house. Ice cubes, popsicles and frozen toys are a fun way to keep them cool and hydrated.

❄️ The A/C is your best friend, but not always an option. Dogs cool from the bottom up, so use a cooling mat or damp towel if the indoors is too warm.

🚗 NEVER leave a dog in a car unattended. The temperatures inside can quickly become deadly, even in the shade or with the windows cracked.

☀️ Know the signs of heatstroke. If your pet has difficulty breathing, weakness, drooling, dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea, or seizures seek immediate medical attention.

Brick is a larger than life guy with an attitude to match. He spent the first six years of his life as a stray and has become quite accustomed to coming and going as he pleases. He's looking for a home that suits his indoor/outdoor lifestyle and a family that will leave the catdoor open for him.

In many ways, Brick is like Goldilocks. He'd like to come into your home, try all your beds, eat your food, and maybe find that one spot that's just right.

We aren't sure how he feels about other pets, but he's made it clear he'd like a home without children. If you have room at home for a world traveler to rest his head, Brick is ready to meet you.

Summer isn't the only thing in full *swing*. Our annual golf scramble Puttin' Fore Paws tees off once again on Monday, August 10th for a day of fun and fundraising. We have limited space available for teams, so don't miss your chance to sign up!

This year Puttin' Fore Paws will be held for the first time at the beautiful Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach. Registration includes cart and greens fees, breakfast and lunch, and an awards reception. We'll have fun contests on the course as well!

We also have sponsorship opportunities available, whether you want to take center stage as the presenting sponsor or roll your team up into a team + hole sponsor combo. Every dollar raised supports our shelter pets!

Benedict is a simple man. He enjoys a cozy room, a spot to keep an eye on the shelter activity, and a good squeezable treat. Who are we to deny him what he wants?

Benedict is 4 years old and is a busy cat looking for a family that can keep up with him. He takes his job in quality control here at the shelter very seriously, even if no one can remember giving it to him.

He's just another one of our VIPs—our Very Important Pets! Thanks to our community partner VIP Tires & Service for partnering with us each month to spoil our pets in the way they deserve. Benedict is available for adoption right now so come and meet him!
