For those who have been waiting for an update on the Dell "Oldies" Dimension Desktop build, it is currently on hold at this time due to "damage complications".

The needed parts to get it up and running were ordered which were the CPU Cooler from Cooler Master, The 20 pin "P4" extender cable, and a spare Power cord, that was pulled from a HP monitor, for the PSU. However, the plastic backing bracket was not including for the CPU Cooler so that has to be ordered now as well.

Upon Attaching the 20 pin extender, CPU cooler fan (Just the fan alone to make sure it worked), and the power cord, another problem had arisen. It seems either the cable is not pulling enough power to the system or one of the following components (PSU, CPU, or Motherboard) are no longer functioning.

So now the dilemma of the day, Buy a new Motherboard, PSU, and CPU, which would result in more money being put into a Single Core System. Or just scrap the desktop. Both are a viable option due to the pros and cons of this being an older system. So we figured we'd get the opinion of everyone else. Should we keep going? or scrap the idea? And worse case scenario, we can either recycle it or put it up for anyone who wants the system, can have it. provided, they don't mind it being as is, and then thy can do what they with with it. lol

Dell "Oldie" Dimension Build Update: Deciding whether to keep the CD & DVD drive as well as the Floppy Disk Drive.

Pros: keeps the original build alive. If ever come across a DVD, CD, or Floppy you want to use, you are able to do so.

Cons: Motherboard only has two IDE slots and each ribbon cable can support up to two per cable. one slot has both the CD & DVD drive attached while the other has 2 HDDs attached. And one smaller IDE slot for the Floppy. lol

As mentioned above, keeping them keeps the original build together. However, if adding more HDDs/SSDs, then you will need to either change the Motherboard or remove the CD/DVD drives.

hmm. Decisions, Decisions.

Translpanting a Dell Dimension 2350 into a DeepCool Tesseract SW case

Codename: Dell "Oldie" Dimension Build
Originally a Dell Dimension 2350 Home Desktop. It now resides in a DeepCool Tesseract SW case. why you ask? why not? if you have a spare case laying around.

Motherboard: Bluford E139765 Motherboard
CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.00 GHz, 512K Cache, 400 MHz FSB
CPU Cooler: Genuine Dell Dimension Desktop Cooler Master 1U581 Heatsink + Clips
RAM: Samsung 256MB PC2100U-25331-Z PC2100 266 MHz DDR Desktop Memory IBM FRU 33L3305
Storage:3x Western Digtal Black 80 GBs HDDS (Currently only two are connected. explain below)
PSU: Genuine Dell 250watt Power Supply Unit
Extras: Creative PCI Sound Card - CT5807 / Syba VIA VT6202 2+1 Port PCI USB I/O Controller / DVD Reader & Burner / CD Reader & Burner / Floppy Disk Drive
OS: Windows XP Home Edition

As mentioned above, it currently has 3 HDDs but only two are connected. Sadly, if i want to keep the DVD & CD reader/writer in, one IDE Port must be sacrificed for that purepose. Though, this is only a starting point. Parts will be upgraded and updated, piece by piece.

Sadly, the build has a bit more to go before it is finished.
2 fan splitter - 3 pin
20 pin ATX extender
4 pin EPS extender
CPU Cooler - CM 1U581
Research which pins the front I/O panel connectors connect to
Picture of progress to follow soon.

For those who have no idea what these are, originally these types of computers were usually reserved for schools and those who wanted personal desktops...back in the 90's. lol
