A vaccine clinic might get the shot done, but at Adams County Veterinary Service, we believe your pet deserves a deeper look. 🐾 Did you know those 'drive-thru' clinics are frequently more expensive than our everyday prices?

Dr. Dan knows that a 'drive-thru' approach can miss the quiet signals your pet is trying to send. A full physical exam is our most powerful diagnostic tool: it’s how we catch subtle heart murmurs, tiny new lumps, hidden dental pain, ear infections, or skin issues before they become major emergencies.

We treat every patient like our own pet, with the loving attention and expert care they deserve. Don't just settle for a shot; give your best friend the peace of mind that comes with a thorough check-up and parasite check. As always remember to bring a f***l sample.

Memorial Day is right around the corner, and we know everyone is excited for those backyard BBQs! While you’re enjoying the sun and snacks, please keep a close eye on your pets.

With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Dan has seen how quickly a fun afternoon can turn into an emergency. Some of the biggest red flags to watch out for are corn cobs, peach pits, and rib bones. These might seem like tasty treats to your dog, but they are notorious for causing blockages that require emergency foreign body surgery. Check out this X-ray to see just how serious these obstructions can be.

Adams County Veterinary Service offers expert surgical care for these exact situations, but we want to help you avoid them altogether! Keep the trash cans covered and those plates out of reach.

If you suspect your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t have, don’t wait. Reach out to us right away.

Dr. Dan's journey into veterinary medicine started long before vet school! 🐾 Known as his 'neighborhood zoo keeper' in eastern Cincinnati, Dr. Dan spent his youth surrounded by exotic pets such as snakes, raccoons, turtles and even held a 3-foot alligator for his high school yearbook photo! 🐊

The junior zoologist program at the Cincinnati Zoo, Ohio State Veterinary school and over 35 years of veterinary practice nurtured his passion. Today, that deep-rooted experience with all kinds of creatures allows him to handle even the most complex cases. Friday we had clients travel from Dayton and Columbus for surgeries Dr Dan has a reputation for performing!Clients have been known to travel far for Dr. Dan's expertise.

Dr. Dans passion is with orthopedic surgeries. Dr. Dan has performed fracture repairs on birds, rabbits, and other exotics but most often dogs and cats. Adams County Veterinary Service offers high-level specialty care to West Union at much reduced prices. 🐕❤️

Turtle crossing!!
Please remember turtles don't look both ways so watch out for them on our roads. With heavy rains snappers are out crawling looking for new ponds, box turtles are meandering looking for worms and our roads are the biggest threat to their survival. I personally saved several this week as did many other people in my office. If you do run into one that's been injured, please bring them to us. I have repaired dozens of shells and released them and I have harvested fertile eggs from dead or morbidly injured turtles.

05/20/2026

A quick microscopic exam of your dog's p**p can show that up to 50% of dogs (not on heartworm prevention) have hookworms or roundworms infecting them. These common parasites can threaten your family and in fact children. Whipworms & tapeworms are less frequent but approach 10% in unprotected dogs. Monthly protection with heartworm pills is the solution. A small sample of blood will show if your dog is already infected with heartworm. Once tested patients can be put on monthly prevention for under $10 a month. Cats need protection too, but we don't routinely test cats.
