🐾 National Adopt a Cat Month 🐾

This month we would like to say a special thank you to all of the rescues that help our feline friends find their forever homes!

We’d like to take this time to highlight Bitty Kitty Brigade and their adoptable— and adorable— cat Ron:

Meet Twin Cities’ #1 Window Watcher, Ron, who will be making a special appearance at Southview! This guy is calm, independent, low-maintenance, and quietly excellent. He prefers a simple life filled with cozy naps, quality window surveillance, and the occasional meaningful cuddle. He’s not here for drama— just a forever home and a comfortable place to observe the world from his favorite perch.

Meet Jess!

Jess has been a valued member of the Southview team for 5 years, serving as our CSR Lead and Rescue Coordinator. Her passion for animals and dedication to helping pets and their families make her an essential part of our team!

At home, Jess has two adorable Domestic Shorthair cats, Moochie and Vanek.

Her favorite part about working at Southview is getting the opportunity to see and learn from a wide variety of unique and challenging medical cases, making every day different and exciting.

Fun fact: Jess is a huge sports fan!

She has season tickets for Minnesota Golden Gophers men's ice hockey games.
She surprised her husband at their wedding by having the Voice of Supercross serve as their announcer!
She has a goal of visiting all 11 professional motocross tracks and has already checked 4 off her list.
She also hopes to travel overseas in the future to experience international racing events.

Urgent Care: May Month in Review

May brought warmer weather, more outdoor adventures, and another busy month of helping pets feel better — fast!

Our urgent care team was proud to provide care 7 days a week, ensuring pets received attention when it mattered most.

From upset stomachs and limping to ear infections, wounds, allergy flare-ups, and unexpected mishaps, we were here every step of the way.

As pets enjoy more time outside this season, we’re here for the unexpected moments that come with spring adventures.

We couldn’t do this without our incredible staff and the trust of our pet parents — thank you for allowing us to care for your furry family members! ❤️

Tiny bites, big irritation! 🪰

Noticing small red spots, scabs, or irritation on your pet—especially around the ears, neck, head, or belly? Black fly bites may be the culprit!

Black flies inflict painful bites, and favorite feeding spots include the ears, neck, head, and abdomen. Local reactions such as redness, itching, and wheals (raised itchy bumps) at the bite site are common.

Signs to watch for:
Redness or scabs
Itching or rubbing at the area
Raised itchy bumps (wheals)
Mild swelling or irritation after time outdoors

Good news: treatment is often unnecessary, and the skin reaction usually improves within 24–48 hours. However, if your pet seems very uncomfortable or is having a more extensive reaction, your veterinarian may recommend treatment to help them feel more comfortable.

Did you know? Black flies are most active during the morning and evening hours. On hot days, they tend to rest near the ground and on the underside of leaves.

Special visitor alert: Skolie the Juliana Pig!

Skolie recently visited us for a sedated hoof trim and overall wellness exam—and he did such a great job! 💛

Routine hoof care and wellness checks are an important part of keeping pigs healthy, comfortable, and feeling their best. We’re happy to report Skolie handled his visit like a champ and recovered very well!
