10-month-old corn snake Pearl came to see Dr. Emerson for gastrointestinal upset. Just like dogs and cats, reptiles can experience digestive issues that may be caused by factors such as improper temperatures, diet changes, parasites, stress, dehydration, or underlying illness.

Signs of GI upset in snakes can include decreased appetite, regurgitation, abnormal stools, lethargy, or changes in behavior. Because reptiles are experts at hiding illness, it’s important to have them evaluated as soon as you notice something isn’t quite right.

Tiny patient, big personality! 🐥💛

This little 2 week old chick came to see Dr. Janzen with a limp and apparent deformity to its right foot. After taking radiographs of her foot it was noted that she had a broken toe, so we used a small piece of cardboard as a tiny splint to help stabilize the fracture while it heals. Sometimes even the smallest patients need a little extra support! We love getting creative to help all creatures big and small feel their best.

Meet Copper, a 13-year-old Lab receiving laser therapy and joint injections to help keep him comfortable and moving easier despite arthritis. 🐾❤️

Arthritis is very common in senior dogs and happens when the joints become inflamed and painful over time. Pets with arthritis may slow down, have trouble getting up, hesitate to jump, limp, or seem stiff—especially after resting. Treatments like laser therapy and joint injections can help reduce inflammation, improve mobility, and make day-to-day life much more comfortable for our older pets.

Sweet little Reggie the rat came to see us for an upper respiratory infection. 🐭🩺

Upper respiratory infections are very common in rats and can cause symptoms like sneezing, congestion, noisy breathing, lethargy, and decreased appetite. Because respiratory issues can worsen quickly in small pets, early treatment is important.

Reggie received a nebulization breathing treatment to help open his airways and make breathing more comfortable, and he went home with antibiotics to continue treatment and recovery. We hope this tiny guy is feeling much better soon! 💙

Meet Georgie, an 18-day-old emu who came to see us for septic arthritis. 🐣💙

Septic arthritis is a painful infection inside a joint caused by bacteria. In young animals like Georgie, the infection can spread through the bloodstream and settle into the joints, leading to swelling, pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking. Early treatment is very important to help prevent permanent joint damage and improve comfort and mobility.

Dr. Janzen and the team are working hard to help Georgie feel better and get back to growing strong! We love getting to care for unique patients like this sweet little emu. 🩺✨
